TH400: mystery continues...
I got my transmission out this morning, and pulled the converter. Remember when I said I found gray paint in the bottom of the drain pan? Well, nothing but clean fluid came out the converter into the bucket. Also, the kneck looks like it's in good shape. Only mild wear.
Now I''m at a loss. I thought for sure it was the converter. Where did the thin film of gray paint come from??? It was just sitting at the bottom of the pan with clean fluid on top if it. The rest of the fluid in the transmission is clean as hell. I'm confused. What gives? Also, the front seal isn't leaking, but it's really worn out, so I'm glad I pulled the tranny anyway. Might as well replace it.

I've always kinda thought of that as normal. A bit excesive...but normal.
Clutch packs wear everytime you put it in gear, and once the wimpy filter is full, it all just settles on the floor of the pan. I think huge chunks of metal is about the only thing that'll vome out of a verter...it's basicly a couple fanns in tranny oil. |
