Door hinges -
Has anyone ever stripped out the threads on the cab side of the door hinge? I cross-threaded one the last time I took the door off, but it's holding. I have to take the door off again, though, and I know it's not going to re-thread. Any suggestions?

Re: Door hinges -
What about retapping it and use the correct fine threaded bolt or one slightly larger? Someone mentioned this before & had a great idea but can't remember what was said. The only one I delt with was disassembled & replaced the nut plate then finished the sheetmetal.

Re: Door hinges -
I stripped one but I cut out the pillar and replaced the whole plate then welded the pillar back in.

Re: Door hinges -
Whoa, that's radical - not sure I want to do that. I'm gonna try re-tapping it first.

Re: Door hinges -
Cutting the pillar isn't as bad as it sounds. Use a cutting wheel peel the panel out , replace from a donor, and reweld a seam. But retapping is easier.

Re: Door hinges -
I would just go up one size and re-tap. It would probably be easier to put the other bolts of that same hinge back in the holes after you remove the door. Center and tighten them, this will stabilize the plate for drilling/tapping.
