leave it stock or relocate?

Need some advice. I'm building a 67 SWB fleetside and I'm have trouble deciding on the gas tank. The cab is still getting metal work done and they already covered the gas filler hole. It only cost $20 for them to do it. I'm wondering if I should undo the work and leave the tank behind the seat or continue the started thoughts of relocating it. I have a rear poly tank kit I picked up for $150, but I'm not happy with the ground clearance. I lowered the rear of my truck 5" and the tank way too close to the ground. I have a really nice steel floor bed I don't want to cut to add a filler. Cost wise it seems a lot cheaper to leave it behind the seat and loose the $20.

Any thoughts?

If already filled, move it.

some good points brought up about gas tank relocation. Personally i dont want gas anywhere near the cab, so its all the way in the rear for me. But this subject is going to be all opinion.

I think in the FAQ section there is a excellent post where the gas filler was in the taillight.. looked great... others used a S10 filler door in the side bed.. there are also options of tanks, I think someone posted useing a jeep cherikee gas tank and fit pretty good and better clearnance.. ( yes I need spell check ) and we need pics!

If you are worried because of the drop why not make a skid plate?

Re: leave it stock or relocate?

The only thing I would be concerned about is the security of the stock tank. There is nothing invented yet to keep the gas stealers from getting into the old style tanks. I was tagged for 50 dollars worth about a month ago. I love stock , but I have to come up with a way to keep the gas from walking off. Current locking caps don't work. The thief can always cut the lines underneath. Good luck on your tank venture.

Re: leave it stock or relocate?

If you lowered your truck you are not doing a 100 pt. restoration. There are great underbed aluminmum tanks for about $400 that are killer and don't hang down and look like a kid with load in his diapers! I hate that look....LOL! Go for one of the nice tanks...board member PICKMUPS sells them as well as others, I am sure.
