I'm looking for a complete set of hubcaps like this for a reasonable price. I should have bid on these but didn't. I'm open to other similar styles as well, but I don't want to spend an unholy amount.

Re: Any idea where I could get a set of hubcaps like this?
A few years ago I bought a couple of the steel ones from a guy who is always at the Monroe and Portland swap meets. He is from the Portland area. He said that he could get the chrome ones also. I am sorry but I couldn't find a card or anything for him. He has a lowboy trailer with lots of milk cartons of hubcaps on it and an awning over it at rainy swap meets. Maybe you know who I am talking about?

Bottom line is I have complete set of steelies that I want to clean up and use as a 'winter wheel set' and maybe put a traction tire on for going up to the mountain or something and want good looking hubcaps with chrome trim rings to keep it looking good.

Re: Any idea where I could get a set of hubcaps like this?
I always check that guys trailer at Monroe as well. He sometimes has a single but never a set. The '67 and '68 "bright" caps (says chrome on the SPID) are really polished stainless...BETTER THAN CHROME...they will never rust or flake! I have found some good ones at HUBCAP Annie's but they always seem to need a little work. There is a guy that will bring them back to NOS condition for a price...LOL! I have his card somewhere.

Re: Any idea where I could get a set of hubcaps like this?
If you buy any without putting your hands on them watch out for the 3/4 ton ones. I got stuck with a set, but i am re-finishing them to sell. Here's a couple pics of the backs of a 3/4 ton notice the extra lip that fits inside the rime and is held in with clips.

Like mine4now says...always check the backside of the cap before buying...they are all the same diameter and appearance on the front.

I was thinking about just getting some moon smoothie caps or something, but would much rather have some neat-o GMC caps. I don't even care if they aren't near perfect. My truck would look weird with perfect parts on it. |

Re: Any idea where I could get a set of hubcaps like this?
I have some GMC caps that are really rough. I will post pics of them later this evening. Are you looking for 1/2 or 3/4 ton? Painted or stainless? Clip or nub style? So many questions...hub caps are not just hub caps...LOL!

Mike, I'll have to pass on the GMC hubcaps since they'll look funny on a Chevy.

Re: Any idea where I could get a set of hubcaps like this?
Brad, I was offering those GMC caps to exmonkeypunk...LOL!
The painted set I posted for bgblk55 are 3/4 ton caps (the back side is slightly larger on 3/4t. vs 1/2t.) so they will not work on your 1/2t. nub style wheel. I will verify this tonight only if it stops raining because all that hardware is in the pasture and I am alergic to rain this time of the year! Heck they just might work but you will need to mount the clips in your wheels...no big deal. Let me check it out and I will let you know. I was actually going to re-finish those painted caps as a back-up set for my Longhorns. I should be able to find you a suitable set.

Brad, would these work? Less than 6-months on the road after purchasing them new (I still have the GM boxes they came in) . .....

Re: Any idea where I could get a set of hubcaps like this?
I just wanted to finish this thread by giving a public thanks to Scot who sent me the complete set of brand new (NOS?) GM hubcaps pictured above. He gave them to me and wouldn't even let me pay for shipping!! What a swell guy! Thanks again Scot!

Re: Any idea where I could get a set of hubcaps like this?
I agree. That was a great gesture...
I do have to say that I have seen where some guys and gals will occasionally send something out to others for free. Sometimes just for the cost of shipping sometimes just to help someone out. But, free is not just material things. Remember that the majority of help that we get from here is free. Some guys will go out of their way to take a picture, retrieve and send data, spend time searching the forum for information for others, look through catalogs, etc, etc... All for free to the reader. |
