Prayers for me tomorrow.
Hope you guys spare a thought for me tomorrow because its time to take my 66 to the dreaded UK annual vehicle exam. This test can be quite stiff for an old truck to get through. Hope the examiner has a soft spot for old American trucks! Phil.

Maybe you could bring the examiner some cold beer, or a good bottle of Scotch. Just an idea
Good Luck! |

Good luck! I know I hate taking my old rig through the local test here. Drives me bananas every year....

Hope it goes well!
Out of curiousity.... does the UK have a "historic" plate available? Missouri offers a historic plate to any vehicle that is 25+ years old, and it only has a $25 one time fee. After that you don't have to have your vehicle inspected. Now it does come with a few draw backs.... 1,000 miles or less each year, you have to keep a log for those miles, but all car show/maintenance miles don't count toward the 1,000.

Re: Prayers for me tomorrow.
I love this advice. I,m sure most of these tricks could help swing the decision my way. In the UK every vehicle over 3 years old must pass this test (the M.O.T. test). The test is age related so a 66 truck wouldn't be expected to pass the same test as a 2004 truck. But all the basic safety items ie, steering, brakes, tyres , lighting, suspension and vehicle structure have to meet the standard. There is no historic plate system over here. It does help to have it tested by someone with a little common sense though. Someone with a soft spot for old vehicles ( normally and older mechanic with poor eye sight!!). The last person you want is the 'Hitler' type, fresh out of training.
You need this MOT certificate to get insurance and road tax. Phil. |

Re: Prayers for me tomorrow. Your prayers answered.
Well just got back from the test. A 1st time PASS. The tester was really interested in the truck and I kept him talking the whole time. He said the front suspension upper and lower ball joints were showing some wear, and he advised me to renew them at some stage. Other than that he was happy. I was more than happy, so now the truck can keep going for another year. Cheers everybody, Phil.
