quick header help

I am installing my new hooker headers and they are rubbing on the control arms. is it all right to grind off one part of that bolt on the end of the control arm?

Re: quick header help

I wouldn't recommend grinding on that part. You might grind through and lose the ability to grease the bushing.

I'd dent the header first. Actually I'd send the headers back and get some other kind that fits in the first place, but I'm old and crotchety. But then Hooker headers are famous for not fitting. They've been making them for thirty years and they STILL don't fit. They must think the trucks themselves are gonna change to suit the headers or something.

Re: quick header help

Well I hear bad fit issues about all headers. I just ground the point off and I can see day light now. Since that part of the control arm is stationary I should not have any bumping or rubing issues right?

Re: quick header help

Well, that hex headed fitting is threaded into the control arm and therefor moves with the control arm. I wouldn't worry a bunch about grinding on it, just don't get nuts. As for the movement, just grind on it around the part you already did to allow for some movement of the control arm.

As for the wrong part number or header, if you mount the motor in the front position it will hit stuff and if in the rear, the motor and the mounts will actually slide back a bit more to get some clearance, so it isn't always the header, it can depend on how/where we put the motor as well.

Re: quick header help

Mine were like yours, and they ended up rubbing through the header. Tons of clearance with the Thorley Tri-Y's.

Keep in mind the engine rocks on the mounts.
