Re: Where Should I be?
What exactly does my truck classify as? This is my first ever Chevy is this a C-10, K-20. I'm sorry if this seems odd But I'm new to the bowtie lifestyle. Just trying to learn all that I can.

Re: Where Should I be?
Thanks for clarifying. The guy told me the engine was the smallest crate motor chevy made and was pulled out of a 64 impala and rebuilt.

Re: Where Should I be?
C (R 87+) is 2wd, K (V 87+) is 4wd, 10 or 15=1/2 ton, 20 or 25 = 3/4 ton. First series are 73-80 and second are 81-87. The big difference is in the front metal and the interior (heaeadlight switch, power windows, delay wiper, etc).
Welcome to the wonderful world of simple modern trucks. If you post the first portion of your VIN (not the last 6 numbers) someone will help you determine what it is. Also in the glove box there may be an option sheet. I see you have a tilt wheel at least.

Re: Where Should I be?
It appears as though someone has put a 78-79 front clip on it, if in fact it's a 76. Also, not sure I ever saw a Silverado without side trim, so maybe someone shaved the trim off for a more modern paint job.
Last but not least, nice ride! I love green trucks!

Re: Where Should I be?
Baby Jay is right, the headlight bezels and grill are off a 79 or 80. The one mirror that is left looks to be from 76, the older tripod style. It seems strange that it is a Silverado with the plastic mat instead of carpet. No serpintine belt system Square84, very similar to my 80, but mine has aftermarket A/C on it. Looks like you may have a mixed mutt, but very solid start I wish my was that nice when I started. I also believe that 79/80s had gas tank doors and your has just a cap like the older models had.

Re: Where Should I be?
It's interesting that you say that. This truck was donated to the vocational center to be used as a project truck for the mechanics in the shop class. Guess the name I picked for the truck is a perfect pick. "ENIGMA"

Re: Where Should I be?
First off, welcome to the boards from the wilderness of Towson, MD. Someone correct me here, but when I was reading through the GM Performance Parts catalog that I have as a PDF file on my pc, there was a paragraph that described the early "crate motors". Didn't they offer a 283 and a 327 as a crate motor? Look at the valve covers too. The "Chevrolet" logo is in cursive, which looks like it could have been from a 283 or 327, right?

Re: Where Should I be?
nice start to a project looks like some body work was done.. which is prolly why the chrome is not there as well as the right side mirror
what are the plans for the truck?

Re: Where Should I be?
SeanConnery you are right, those are valve covers that were used on the old 283 and 327's. The onlt thing is those older valve covers had no holes in for a breather if I am not mistaken, and it looks like both these have holes in them.
The older 283 and 327's did not use the newer PVC valve system.

Re: Where Should I be?
Hey guys thanks all of you. The engine is a 283 I beleive. Also some of the things that don't look right on the motor is probably because there were some things taken from a corvette. Im not really sure about alot on this truck however as soon as I can I will post pics of the first part of the vin# so someone can set the record straight on my "mixed mutt" of a truck.

Re: Where Should I be?
It sounds awesome. I'm really digging those hubcaps, but I'm a little weird. Must be my spear and magic helmet.
Welcome to the board, dude.
