Tomorrow evening I will be taking my old truck on the longest trip ever that I've had it. I'll be driving from Stillwater OK, to Marion OH, and then to Hubbard Ohio (near Sharon, PA) and back again to see family. My 4 year old daughter and her momma (the12catlady) will be traveling with me. Should be a fun trip, but I am kinda nervous. Its going to be about 2200 miles round trip. The truck has a lot of new parts on it, so I am hoping for the best!!!!

Re: Road trip in an old truck!
PM me if you want my number for emergency contact. I'm in columbus. I can't travel too far to assist, but can possibly help out with other contacts.
Good luck with your trip, and keep the speed down in Ohio... they WILL nail you. |

Re: Road trip in an old truck!
Thanks, Longhornman!!! PM sent. I can remember all the times my dad got irritated on trips back "home" because when we got to Ohio the speed limit was one of the lowest! It seems like they were the last ones to switch the interstate speeds from 55 to 65?

Re: Road trip in an old truck!
Ohio switched to 65 right after the feds let them in the 80's. However, they didn't do much after the feds gave total control to the states in the 90's. Tehy bumped some more roads up to 65, and I think the toll freeway up north (I80 I think) was moved up to 70 recently.
I totally agree, a 5 gallon jug of watter in the back is top priority. PM returned |

Re: Road trip in an old truck!
Thanks Andy and VA_TLC. Plenty of water for us and the engine is tops on the list. I just picked up a new spare tire today too. Got an extra fan belt behind the seat.

Re: Road trip in an old truck!
It wouldn't be a terrible idea to throw a good used alternator in the back or under seat if you have one and of course a small wrench/socket set, a few screwdrivers and jumper cables. If something simple tears up, you don't want to pay a mechanic on wheels or pay a towing bill if it is something you could have fixed if you just a wrench. Ask me how I know that!

Stillwater, OK is my Home Town.
I'm not sure of the route you will be taking. However, I know anyone on this board will help you out if needed. I'm in the Little Rock, AR area if needed.

Re: Road trip in an old truck!
Many thank to everyone who offered to provide assistance on the trip! It went really pretty smooth, and I ended up logging about 2400 miles. We had to make an unexpected detour to Wooster on the way back from Hubbard to pick up a kiln, and for some reason my empty truck was pretty full coming back! I used 4 tanks @ 15 gallons each way from OK to Ohio, and another tank and a half going from Marion to Hubbard and back, 2 quarts of oil, 1/4 pint of power steering fluid, no trans fluid, and 1/2 gallon of water. I was kind of depressed by how few old cars and trucks I saw on the road the further east I went, though I did go through Wooster in time to see cars coming in for a old car show.
