Got my 75 2wd blazer 4 $800

I bought this from a guy in washington and had to have it transported to me because the truck I was going to use backed out last minute. Turned out better that way though(long story). What do you think? The seller also parted with a set of drop spindles and all of the misc. parts that he had gathered. Hopefully within a couple of weeks I will get the spindles on along with a pair of drop springs and flip the rear. It has a straight six in it right now but not for long. Pulled my 454/400 combo out of my nova before I sold it and its just sitting waiting to go into the blazer. The body overall seems to be in good shape. Going to try to just drive it for a while as it looks instead of doing a complete tear down.

Where abouts did you find that one?
I didn't see that one on CL but I have been abstaining from the addiction as best I can lately...

Re: Got my 75 2wd blazer 4 $800

I found it on CL out of port orchard probably early June. Out of everything I found in the surrounding states this one had the best body for the money. The plus was that it came with new beltech spindles. The only other 2wd that I found was out in Nebraska and the body looked like swiss cheese. While I was in the process of talking back and forth with the owner it was caught up in a flood and the owner didn't know if it got swept away with the waters b/c the road was washed out. After that he finally got decent pics so I could see all the holes, he told me that I was the only person that even showed interest and he still wanted the full $800. It was a pretty easy decision of which one to buy.

Good score! I'm in the minority, I like the half-cab trucks but that's probably due to me being half bald.

Good luck with it!

I know how that goes. This is my third K5 since my first in 1987 - my sons dig it and both want one, but they're 6 and 7 years old. Much as my wife loves me, I'd be pushing the limits if I brought home two more Blazers. Thing is, I'd really love to while decent trucks are still available on the cheap. Ten years from now it'll be a different story.

Yeah I totally agree with you there. I have seen 4 or 5 that were right around $500 bucks and all I can think of is that those aren't going to be that cheap for too long. It would be nice to pick up another blazer for when the time comes to start the Father/Son project. Oh well just happy that I finally got the one that I have been wanting for a long time.

I've seen some sinfully nice K5's on ebay that need no restoration. Granted, they're mid-80's models but still. Three to four thousand and they don't sell? TBI and an R4. Makes me ill but I can't buy them all...

That's a great looking truck, I'm looking forward to seeing progress pictures.

Re: Got my 75 2wd blazer 4 $800

Some actual progress... I pulled the straight 6 out today just before the rain started. It seems easier to pull a six out than an eight for some reason. Now it is down to cleaning up everything before the 454 goes in it or just put it in and enjoy it because the cleaning up could take a very long time. And we all know why, because once you start you think to yourself just a couple of parts to clean and paint and then on with the build. Then it becomes just a few more and so on....anyway updated pics

Re: Got my 75 2wd blazer 4 $800

You gotta clean it up. If you don't do it now your going to regret it. Just don't get crazy with it. Pressure wash it, and spend an afternoon scuffing everything. Hit it with a bath of satin black.

Once you get the fresh motor in, you may want to go back and detail some large parts, but that coat of satin black will make a HUGE difference in a short period.

Re: Got my 75 2wd blazer 4 $800

Hey thanks guys. Yeah that is the general plan for now, wash her down and spray the bay in black. I used to have access to a Hot water pressure washer because of my neighbor and man that thing could degrease engines like nobody's business. But I guess it blew up, something to do with the heating coil. Oh well just a plain old pressure washer and some degreaser for now. My goal is to get everything where it is supposed to be before the first snow fall. With me living in Utah the snowfall could come pretty quick. I was planning on just sticking in the 454/400 into the blazer b/c it is already out. But in looking further down the road in the grand scheme of things I am going to pull the 350/350 out the silverC10, fix the leaky rear main in the small block and breathe new life into the blazer. With looking at everything the big block would make the silver c10 the total package as the body is done and she is a weekend queen as it is. the plan for the Blazer is to be a daily/cruizer and eventually get her an overdrive for even better cruising! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Re: Got my 75 2wd blazer 4 $800

looks great!!

For a daily driver, the 350 will be better on gas... and I would say maybe drop it 2/2 or so but not too much as these beasts look better closer to stock (in my opinion anyways).
wish I had the full top in my burb, I would probably drive it more... oh well at 10mpg its better to sell and get me a Jeep CJ/YJ for around town... the problem locally is even the parts ones are going for $2000+ and the running ones start about around $3500.

IMO... rebuild the 6 and put it back in, drop it, clean it up and drive it while working on the exterior/interior.

Killer deal. I am actually looking to pick up a 75 2wd blazer myself to match my 75 4wd Blazer. So hopefully when i am ready to pick one up one will be available especially at this price.

Cam, lifters, rings and bearings in the stovebolt, new clutch and satin black on the engine compartment, detail the hell out of the 6 and put it back in. drop the blazer 2 in back and inch in front. scuff the entire thing with a 7448 3m pad and drive it forever..... NICE TRUCK....

Re: Got my 75 2wd blazer 4 $800

Well I sold the Straight six for $100. So now my $800 2wd Blazer is a $700 2wd Blazer. I had nothing against the six but when you already have a reliable 350 and a 454 sittin in the shed just waiting it's turn to roar. Now the only real problem is that I am running out of warm weather and that is bad because I do all of my wrenching outside. No enclosed garage to work in. So the plan is still to get both motors where they need to be before snow starts falling. That means I need to pull the motor and trans out of my silver 76 and slipping the 454 in it's place. Before the 350 goes into the Blazer I am hoping to replace a leaking rear main and maybe paint the block black. Also I wanted to tell everyone thanks for taking the time to read this. This site is so incredibly awesome to have as a resource that I intend to be here for a long long time. I read a thread posted by a member saying that he knew of someplace better than this to refer to for blazer posts and I thought to myself than why doesn't he just go there and not come back. I thought about responding to his idiotic rants and then decided that any kind of a response would just further his time on this board. Again thanks and I will get more progress pics soon....You guys rock!!!!
