Steering column will have to be almost completely disassembled. If you do not have the know how to take it apart there is a cheaters way. The lever for the linkage at the bottom of the column can be bent down enough to slide the seals over it. Then just simply bend it back up. This is not the correct way but it does work.

Yes but it will take several bends before it breaks. So if it has not been bent before you will be ok. I have done this before for guys who did not want to pay the labor to do it the correct way.

Re: In need of help How to change Steering Column Floor-Seal
In my opinion, if you don't want to bend the arm....then everything that is a larger diameter than the hole in the gasket/seal, or protrudes from the column will have to be removed. Steering wheel, shifter arm, turn signal arm, the bell beneath the steering wheel that houses the tilting mechanism, etc.

My factory tilt wheel for a floor shifter didn't have all that stuff on it. Slide right off. Ha!!

Re: In need of help How to change Steering Column Floor-Seal
Ok as I recall, I left the seal out in the desert sun to soften it, put it on as far as I could protected the seal with a rag, got some vice grips with a good hold on it and while bracing the column, I stretched it over the arm. It returned to its shape just fine. Maybe I got lucky though.

It will stretch over the lever without bending it, I have done this four times now and it has worked everytime!!!!!!!!

Re: In need of help How to change Steering Column Floor-Seal
This sounds good I will give it a try but have you chaged the smaller seal the one that goes in the cab end of the steering shaft it is smaller? I figured if I was going to change one why not change them both thst one is cracked as well!
