bagging the front of a 61
First off please dont tell me to swap a-arms. Im already commited to the stock ones. I already have 6 lug disk conversion with 2.5" drop spindles and new ball joints.
It seams to me the easiest way to bag it would be a plate on the bottom of the a-arm with a cup for the bag, then a top bag mount on the crossmember as usual. Questions: Is the bottom of the a-arm going to be too low for the bottom bag mount? Should I go mid way on the a-arm ratrher than the bottom? I read the bottom of the bag just rests in the cup no bolts or anything? Seams both 6 and 7 inch bags are popular are there pros and cons to both? Any other sugestions? Ideas?

Yes that is the simplest way. I had mine just sitting in bottom of lower arm and it started to rub on bag (I have 2600 contitech though) not sure about slams or other brands.. some people use cups to raise bag up to clear arm, but then it wont drop as much if you use the plate on bottom side of X member. I am just going to modify the lower arms so it wont rub and keep it kinda simple. But hope that kind of helps you |

Re: bagging the front of a 61
So I dont need the cups? I was thinking of welding a nut to the bottom plate so I can run the ball joint bolt down into it.

Re: bagging the front of a 61
After doing some research, I think RE-6 slams will work perfect for my front. They are only 1" shoRter max hight than RE-7's and smaller around to fit better in the a-arm.
Where Im not looking to hop or anything just adjustable ride hight I think they will do fine. Also anyone running "autopilot digital air ride control"?

Re: bagging the front of a 61
Ok I cut out some bottom plate out of 1/4 plate got them welded in.
It came to my attention some of you may not know what 60-61 lower a-arms look like. I dont have a before pic so Ill use this MS paint image. black= channel iron mains blue= the tube the torsion bar goes in grey= a small flat crossmember on the top for the ball joint to bolt to red= the ball joint I simply welded plate to the bottom of the a-arm. So now I'll just cut the bolt holes into the plate for the bottom bag mount. I think a top plate for the bag mount for 64-87 will work on the cross member. I have to do some more research to be sure. Does anyone know of a web site you can print "actual size" templates for bag mounts and upper plates?

Re: bagging the front of a 61
You got it man, that'll work perfect. When I did the 67 Frame, I copied and made a template of the top plate.
I have it some wherr in my shop, with the degree of bend as well. Let me know if you need a copy...

Re: bagging the front of a 61
Yes I do but why pay for a set front and back if I can just make my own
.. I get it it's about supporting people but u can find them anywhere and I'm going to do modifications to my mounts so why not just make them myself.. plus the rears available aren't what I'm looking for.. just the front.. Not any newer threads about it |
