Re: converting to floor shifter

There are several on eBay, just make sure you buy one that fits your application. Also, if you've never performed this mod, get someone that has to give you a hand. Otherwise your truck will be parked and you'll be ready to damage some property.

If the link doesn't work I typed "3-speed shifter" in the search box.

Re: converting to floor shifter

I'm converting to a floor shifter also. I want to use a Lokar shifter. I will keep the transmission to column linkage in place, but will use a lower bowl from a Monte SS steering column. This will allow the indicator to be operational, and prevent start-up in gear.
I also live in MI and used the same LCA's you have on your truck. My truck looks just like yours, only different.
Good luck with your linkage quest.

Re: converting to floor shifter

Hey I dont know if this helps but my B&M shifter just works off a of a cable linkage. It's a lot easier to deal with considering you can pretty much mount your shifter any where as long as the cable is long enough.

Re: converting to floor shifter

What kind of problems have you heard that people with cable shifters are having. I currently have a Hurst Pro-matic in my truck and have never had a problem with it. I will be changing back to a column shifter but it has absolutely nothing to do with the performance of a cable shifter.

Re: converting to floor shifter

I LOVE cable shifters! You don't want to kink the cable, no tight bends etc, other than that it should be trouble free.

My comments above were directed towards someone installing a manual shifter, 3 speed, 4 speed etc.

Re: converting to floor shifter

I bought a cheap Mr Gasket shifter on eBay, works just fine. Of course I customized the handle a little.

As someone already said, keep the cable kink free and you will not have any issues. In other words, follow their instructions and you will be fine.

Keep in mind, most floor mounted automatic shifters have some sort of reverse lockout or “park” trigger/lockout lever. Either of those would be cumbersome to use with an extended length handle. I had a very basic floor shifter, again a Mr Gasket brand, in another vehicle that would have been suitable for this type of application. The shifter had no type of lockouts, bolted to the floor, and was connected to the transmission with a lever, no cable.
