Update at the bodyshop (not dialup friendly) **EDIT: It's Done!**
After having this truck for over a year, I decided to get the rust fixed behind the rear wheel wells. As these things go, it snowballed into a complete repaint. The body is exceptionally straight and the only rust was the behind the wheel wells and the cab corners were *just* beginning to bubble a tiny bit. I went by today to see where it's at, and he intends to finish the bodywork on Sunday and hopefully begin paint on Monday. Bed will be coming back off to be sprayed with either bedliner or undercoat underneath. The paint will most likely be Dupont ChromaPremiere in the original Cardinal Red color topped with 4 or so coats of clear. I'll try to get by during the week for update pics. P.S. Sorry about the pic sizes. I tried to resize but it didn't want to cooperate.

It is going to look good when finished, I love red trucks.
I see you got the speaker brackets installed, they look great.

Re: Update at the bodyshop (not dialup friendly)
Jeff: Those were the "rough fit" pics. Got all the holes drilled and brackets set. This truck is a little trickier to install for because It's a factory bucket seat truck and it has that carpet that runs around the back panel there. I had to gently cut a "notch" in the carpet at the bottom for the bracket to butt up to the corner. A bit of trial and error there--but it came out really good. I took the brackets back out and rattle canned 'em flat black--they look nice. Won't be able to permanently install until after paint because the upper cab moulding has those 2 nuts that screw in right behind the brackets.
C10: Sorry I didn't take any before pics of the whole truck, but I do have a couple of the rusted quarters. Last edited by Prong; 08-27-2008 at 06:10 PM. Reason: spelling |

Re: Update at the bodyshop (not dialup friendly)
Small update: The doors, fenders, and hood are painted. Found a rust spot on the cowl that had to be fixed and tomorrow the cab will be shot. Will get the cab/front clip reassembled during the week. The bed/tailgate should be done by the weekend and I hope to have it back next week. I'll be helping with the reassemble phase towards the weekend and will get some pics. Progress has been slow because he's still flying solo trying to handle my truck amongst other work that's been scheduled.

Re: Update at the bodyshop (not dialup friendly)
Went by the shop today to move a replacement bed for my other truck and check on progress. Not much got done during the week, thanks to the annual fire inspection and the 3 days of making sure everything's kosher. However, he got the bed back off and fixed the cowl rust. He was blocking/priming/skim coating a few baby dings in the cab roof once we got the bed moved. He was going to prime late tonight/early tomorrow, and hopefully shoot the cab either Sunday evening or first thing Monday. So, I went home and dyed my new door panels and have them ready to go. I plan to go down next Saturday and put the interior back together. I'm getting antsy to get it back...

Re: Update at the bodyshop (not dialup friendly)
9/27 Update:
Went by today to dye kick panels and console. Also Helped hang driver's fender and piddled around with a few other things. Will be going back tomorrow to drop off a couple of needed pieces and assemble a few other things. Cab is shot, now it only needs wet sanded/buffed. He didn't like the slight color difference between new paint and interior paint color, so he'll pull the doors back off tomorrow and shoot the inside of those too. After that, bed will be bedlined underneath and painted this week. Hopefully a week from today, I'll have it roadworthy. Last edited by Prong; 09-28-2008 at 12:58 AM. |

Re: Update at the bodyshop (not dialup friendly)
Pics should be back tomorrow. I went by today and wired rear speakers up, installed door weatherstrip, installed sound deadener on the inside of the doors, and did a couple other odds and ends.

Re: Update at the bodyshop (not dialup friendly)
Update 1-/12:
After the snitch/weasel of a neighbor jammed my guy up with the city over meeting code, there was a week of downtime making everyone happy. So with that out of the way, he returned to work on the truck. Doors were painted on the inside, so now they're nice and shiny too. I reinstalled seats and carpet, back window, undercoated floor pans and rockers, backside of the rear bumper, made up new hardline for the fuel pump, and dyed the kick panels and console. IMO, SEM's Palomino is the closest match I've found for the buckskin/saddle color interior. Anywho, the doors will be rehung and built on Tuesday complete with new weatherstrip/channel/felts. Bed will be shot in the morning, and should be ready to wetsand/buff towards end of week. We're planning to button things up complete by Saturday as long as the neighbor doesn't cause him any more problems/delays. (There must have been crud on the camera lense, because there's no blotches on those seats.) Last edited by Prong; 10-13-2008 at 03:07 AM. |

Re: Update at the bodyshop (not dialup friendly)
84: I got the cab corners/bed patches from Chris over at 73-87.com
Jeff: That gate is what was on the truck when I got it. It looks like the PO spent some $$ restoring about 10 years ago. There's an aluminum tailgate band to go over that, so the script difference won't be seen anyway. |
