stupid step side bed ?'s
Newbe here with a couple of?. I just got a '64 gmc short stepside that is/isnot a basket case(missing alot of bolts, alabama hillbilly truck).so i want to do some stuff to the bed.currently there is no floor, just a couple of sign posts holding up the bed(will be steel when done). i am trying to figure out about where it should sit hieght wise and how far back from the cab. the general direction that i am going is a early '70's bar hopper style (slots, peace sign, 4on the floor).
my rear fenders are repairable, but need to be widened(i'll do the work myself)to work with the tire combo but i need to what will be more cost efective. i am not sure if a 295/50/15 on a 10" rim will work with 3" wider glass fenders and a '77 12bolt rear end. Thanks for the help,Trout |

Re: stupid step side bed ?'s
Here are some pictures of mine when it was a stepside. I can't help you with the tire sizes though. These were about the best I could find that might be of any help. Also. If you want to go wide wheels you might have to tub the bed a bit along with the wider fenders. You don't want the fenders sticking out to far from the cab. It might look funny. All that work and you might not like it, then you are tearing it apart again like me..

Re: stupid step side bed ?'s
I have 295/50-15s on 10" rims and they "fit." Once I drop the rear end like I want they won't quite fit, w/o rolling the fenders a bit. Had you seen wider rear fenders someplace?

Re: stupid step side bed ?'s
Thanks guys, it looks like i'll just line up the steps with the rockers and set the box back about an 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" from the cab.
Javadoc, i have sean them a couple of places. the hot rod super store sells them for $215 each and $70 for a pair of tapered steps. stock 'glass lists for $185. not sure what they get to ship them(there out of GA). dixie truck works has them to at $665 a pair part# lab-13. hope this helps Trout Last edited by blazentrout; 09-18-2008 at 04:07 AM.
