R.I.P Slug???

Well, sitting here in arlington tx after evacuating from ike, so far from home and living out of a suitcase. the only thing i really had a chance to get was my 07 gmc (wich i evacuated in) and my 08 honda rancher 420. i can only imagine the horror of how the salt water that flooded our home town has effected my 83 chevy silverado swb. a friend of mine went to check out my house and he said there is a water mark at least 3 foot up the wall. and everything is covered in mud. the house can be rebuilt no prob, but the slug.......... thats the question. i was waiting till this fall to strip her down and re-paint the old girl. after sitting in limbo for over 6 years i finnaly got her running and had everything going the way i wanted. i guess i can just tear her down and go a frame off resto now. maybe get everything chemicle dipped or something. i would hate to lose this truck. i have had it for the last 13 years. oh yeah, my girl friend lost her 2001 toyota tacoma extended cab sr5 4x4 that she just paid off, good thing she had full coverage insurance on her truck. my mother and father are headed back to s.e.tx from mississippi today to check the dammage that this storm has caused. im in good spirit and i think im takeing it well. i will ask for yall to send a prayer up stairs to the big man and pray for the people and familys of the people who didnt make it throught this tragedy. i can gripe about my beloved "slug" all day long, but my kids, family, girlfriend, and my self are all safe. and thats the most important thing.

hang in there slug. when i was a teen my families house burned to the groung, later years, tornado took my house out, things can be replaced, loved ones can't. you know this. your in my thoughts and prayers man. as for me... God is good. He blesses me more than i deserve. Art

Hard to believe we saw 75 mph winds in KENTUCKY from that storm.

It’s easy for us to say “Hang in there”, but its really the only thing you can do.
Living on the east coast I cringe every time I see a storm developing, you never know.

I think it would be really cool if everyone on this forum were able to help out. I’m talking about all of us donating parts to members trying to rebuild a storm damaged truck.

That salt is real bad on them cars... the sooner you get it washed down, the better.. I am sorry for your lose but your right. The important things are you and family are in good shape.. the rest can be fixed... Think of it this way....you have an excuse to change the overall look of the truck now/.

That's some awful news to have to swallow. I hope that somehow the truck is alright and can be salvaged. Some kind of chemical dip for the cab would be the ticket.

the saying is an old one i used to hear as a kid.it kinda applies to this thread.it means."don't look back",don't let moss grow under you,don't cry over spilled milk.i alway's thought of it as a keep your chin up and look ahead inspirational saying............"never look up a dead dog's as$.....by the way.i had a moderator change the last word to butt from as$.no biggie.you still get the idea.

well, after retunring home weds. and seeing all the dammage the storm surge caused and seeing all the work that needs to be done. i have decided to get rid of the slug. i got home and opned the driver side door and seen where the water was up to the lower portion of the side window. poped the hood and seen a pile of leaves and marsh reeds covering the engine. knowing that i have enough work ahead of me rebuilding my parrents and sisters house, i decided to ask my brother in law if he wanted the truck. he told me he would take it and it would give him and my nephew (who is 12) something to work on. at least it will still be in the family. i figure in a couple years i will get another square body and start all over. i will surely miss seeing this truck in the drive way. i also lost all my shop tools ( plasma, welder, compressor, paint equipment, ect.) i think i will be able to save most of my hand tools. we were fortunate though. two streets over where my sister lives. the houses that lined the marsh on the opposite side of the street from my sister had their houses structuraly destroyed by the storm surge that ravaged my home town. we were luckyer than alot of people in our town. we lost alot but have alot to gain from this experiance. i have seen the good in people come out and have seen our comunity pull together and help one another out.
