transmission crossmember ?!?!?!?!

i thiought there was a company that made one for our trucks but now i cant find it. or is there any one with a custom one that they made so i can get an idea ?

I had started to, but really like the fact that the factory one does a better job of holding the frame together. The frames on our trucks flex enough to begin with, so installing a trans crossmember that takes away rigidity didn't seem like the thing to do for myself. However, I do see why people would like the ones made out of round tube.

You know.....you got a good point.....ever notice that if you have the crossmeber out and the truck isnt suported level...that its almost imposible to get back in because the frame is flexed. They are just such a pain in the butt to remove. lol.

Yep, that's exactly why mine is built like it is. With it bolted top and bottom it keep the frame rigid.

Heck I had one on level ground, and it wouldn't go back in. The cab mounts act like lever arms, and with the weight of the cab, they bend the frame inwards. I had to put a jack on both cab mounts and jack them up until I could finally get the crossmember back in.

made this one... got the idea from a site that makes them... i think for chevelles, novas, etc... If i ever slam it, won't have to worry about exhaust

You could get a junkyard double hump crossmember. That's what I did. One of these days I'll install it and get new exhaust done...

Double hump is the way to go if you want dual exhaust with headers. The catalytic converter crossmember makes for a complete mess of an exhaust on the drivers side.

Well, if you are not lowered the double hump is great. But with a 3"-4" drop and 3" exhaust pipes, there ain't much ground clearance left.

there is actually room to run the exhaust above the crossmember with the stock one... I've had it run that way on my truck for 4-5 years now.

Wow that's low. What headers are those ? Mine is at stock height, but with Hedman Elite long tubes, I don't think they hang that low.

Here is how GM did the Corvette to keep the pipes between the frame rails. As low as they sit that would be great for a lowered truck!

I think you guys just solved my problem. I had the truck jacked up when I took the cross member out. I guess I am going to have to jack it back up to see if I can put it back in.....................

That one will not, work too wide. I have the same one and had to cut 3/4" on each side to make it fit.

here is mine I made for my c10 on the weekend if anyone is interested. iv got a set of hooker headers to suit a chevelle with 3.5" collectors which sit at the same level as the trans crossmember!
