Thumbs up Hi All

New here and wanted to Say hi heres a 1969 4x4 C20 I think I stole yesterday. 307 V8, Muncie SM465 manual trans, Rockwell Timkin 221 transfer case, Dana 44 full float front axle with Spicer hubs, Runs good, needs a good tune up has been sitting for about a year.

Definitely post some more pics when you can. That is interesting as my 69 K20 also had the mighty 307 but mine had a 3 speed manual until I converted it to 4 speed and bbc powered.

Am I correct in assuming you have the Eaton HO52 rear axle? How about a factory No-Spin (Detroit Locker).

Power steering or power brakes?

Can you post a pic of your SPID on the inside of your glove box?

Just a heads up, for sale info needs to go into the classified section. You'll need to be a member to post in that section but you'll probably find the $25 membership fee is pretty reasonable for the great info throughout the board and exposure you get in the classified section.

Thanks again, I didn't know that about the classifieds, Here are a few more pics I will take more pictures and post this was the add when I bought it, I will investigate and let you all know whats really there, for $450 I really didn't care as it runs and drives and looks good. 1969 Chevy Pickup K20 (4x4 version of C20) 307 V8, Muncie SM465 manual trans, Rockwell Timkin 221 transfer case, Dana 44 full float front axle with Spicer hubs, corporate full float rear axle

You are welcome for the info on the classified section. You can scroll up to your first post and hit the "Edit" button to change the info about selling the plow. The mods will appreciate that.

Oh a little maintenance suggestion, make sure you keep your transfer case gear oil fluid full - I screwed up and let mine get low and ended up loosing one of the input bearings. The Rockwell T221 does not take kindly to low oil because when it gets low, the input shaft gets starved for oil.

Thanks I flatbedded it home just for that reason, I want to change and check all fluides before driving it too far. I too couldn't believe the price. Thanks again for the info I found the edit button.

Thanks for all your comments, I'm doing a complete tuneup and changing all the fluides this weekend. Any special oils I should use that are any better than any others?

Your axles, manual tranny and transfer case all use the same 80w90 gear oil. I've often wondered if it would be helpful to use a synthetic gear oil to cut down on drag but haven't tried it. Rather than buy the small containers of gear oil, I pick up a 5 gallon container and a hand pump that goes in the container. You won't need that much of course but I find it is good to have on hand.

Anyone try synthetics in the axles, tranny and t/c that can comment on that?

No real suggestions on the coolant or power steering fluid - I usually just by what is on sale at my local parts store.

I like Valvoline 10w30 but use Rotella T these days in the same 10w30.

That should mean it is a Eaton HO52 which is a full floating rear axle. If you break an axle shaft, you can still drive the vehicle. The Eaton axle has a drop-out thirdmember which means you could pull the thirdmember and swap in a different axle ratio relatively easily.

Here's a link that gives a good definition of each type of rear axle.
