Dana 44 posi question
i picked up a posi carrier out of a 67 GMC 2wd with a dana 44 rear end. will this carrier interchange with my dana 44 front axle under my 72 K/20. GMC has 3:07s and my 72 has a later 44 with 3:73s. i've tried the axle shafts and they seem to be a perfect fit into the side gears. come on 4x4 guru's, someone has to know the answer to this. i think it'll work but i'd like to know for sure before i gut my front diff.

Re: Dana 44 posi question
Most likly it will fit fine. I have never worked on a D44 rear so I can't say for sure.

Re: Dana 44 posi question
The carrier break on a 44 is 3.92 and down, so there it will work. But I don't think it will work cause the 67 might be course spline, and the front is a fine spline. Pull a shaft from the rear and see how many splines, if it's 30, then it will work in your front.

Re: Dana 44 posi question
thanks for the replies. i've already tested my axles and they seem to be a perfect fit. it's been a while since i looked at it so i'll double check before i tear my front diff apart.
so, it's safe to assume that a 44 "pumpkin" is the same whether it's a front or rear diff, they just got different cut gears depending on application-front or rear.
