Measure the width of the frame to see if it is close. Also measure the wheel base.

I took the body mounts off the 66 frame and put them on a 77 frame. The frame widths were the same, but I had to cut the bed down to match the wheelbase. My frame was from a Blazer which is shorter than a pickup.

Good luck and have fun!

A lot of work to end up with the same result of swapping the front cross member.
Whats wrong with the '62 frame?

80's truck frames are wider under the cab and the cab mounts ane on the inside of the frame. Your 62 is the opposite. The crossmember is your way to go. I used the rear axle kit from classic peformance products to get mine down to 5 lug. Since they got them other companys probaly do to. Don,t forget to get all of the steering linkage.

I was going to put a 74 frame under my 62, but for the money at the time it was easier and more economical just to put front crossmember and rearend under existing frame, i got 5x5 all the way around and lowered it in a weekend.. But anyways yeah measure out the width and figure out where all mounts go and go from there

Front crossmember swap, PS, PB, front sway bar, rear 12 bolt, 700R4, and 350 all from an eighties model pickup. retained stock frame, best thing I ever did. 5 on 5, running a 3.5/5 drop with 20's. or as previous posted, measure carefully and make the swap. Either way, all the best with the build.

Do it. Move your body mounts and modify what you have to. Nothing is easy!

Re: Frame and body swap 62 chevy??? ANy help

I've done one pretty much like what you're asking. I put a '62 body on a '76 frame. When it was all done it basically had about a 3" body lift.....it sat about like a stock K10. So if that look is what you want I say go for it. If not I would recommend as was already mentioned, swap the entire front suspension, steering, brakes and rear differential to your '62 frame.....and whatever else you need.

What kind of problems does the torsion bar setup present in a crossmember swap?

They need to be removed. You may also be able to remove the bracket or crossmember that they attach to under the cab. It's been a long time since I've been under a '60-'62, and I can't remember exactly what it looks like. Someone that has done it will be able to give you some details.
