Newb
Hello everyone. I am from montana & I am starting to work on a 1952 3100.
I saw an old 50's P/U for sale on the side of the road a couple of months ago. I stopped by and ended up buying it. I have since really got the bug for these trucks & now have six of them in my yard It has become a hobby in of itself just going down remote roads, finding an old truck then trying to haul it off for free. I have two 52's, one pre 50?, and three 54's. I just got the 54's & don't know what the differences are other than I noticed the windshield is one piece & the grill is different. It looks like maybe the hood is a little longer & I noticed the bed rails are flat. I haven't had as much time as I would like to work on my planned build. So far I picked out a 52 cab & used metal from other old junker cars to patch up the floor & cab corners. It is looking pretty solid, I also patched one door bottom and that is about it for the body. I installed a 77 chevy 1/2 ton p/u front end & started on a disc brake 9" rear that I got from the junk yard. I have put together a ls1 forged short block, reworked heads, intake, oil pan, turbo, & exh. manifolds for this build. It will probably be a long time before I get this on the road. I have never done body work so I am learning as I go. I do however work on boosted ls1 setups, it is my specialty. I got the 54's from the original owner. He had story about each truck & why he quit driving them. Pretty cool. One thing kind of unique is that one has an aluminum topper that he said was from 54. I am going to keep it & fix it up although it is in pretty good shape. Here is the pic of the first truck right after I got it home. The guy told me it was a 50 but I have since found out it is a 52. |

Re: Newb
You'll find a few differences in the '54-551st series pick ups. As you stated, the windshield, grill, and bed sides and tailgate are different. The rear of the chassis, door hardware, gauges(larger diameter), dash, and parking lights are other differences off the top of my head. I personally like the differences as there are less '54 trucks on the road. Glad to hear you got the bug. Post pics of your great deals and keep us posted!

Re: Newb
Here are some pics of the rigs. They haven't been cleaned up & some are still on trailers. The guy said that the green 54 will still drive with some TLC so I'll prob leave it as is. He wrecked the blue 54 by missing a curve & going over some RR Tracks so the front end is tore up. There is also a pic of the camper I was talking about.
The last pic is of a hood ornament. He said he got it from some old car but I forgot what kind. I think I will keep it, it's kind of cool. The 53 front clip is going on my project, it is in pretty good shape |

Re: Newb
Looks like a Pontiac emblem to me. You have plenty of straight cabs to start projects with. Good luck. I hope that they are all saved from the crusher. Thanks for the pics. Looks wet. I can't remember what rain feels like here in CA.
