My truck died, complete electrical loss!!!

I'm crusing on my way to work last night, drive thru a small puddle of water and poof..... I lose all power, everything just shut off. No obvious signs, no smells, no smoke nothing. The only thing that does work is my headlight switch, head/tail lights come on but nothing else, no hazards, brake, dome lights of course it does not crank either. Ground wire looks to be secure, I'll get under it today and check the power cable. But what else should I be looking at, could a fried stater cause what I've described?

Thanks Roy

of course check fuses but I'd bet you popped a fusable link off the main lug on the starter. There are 3 or 4 coming off that lug, #8-12 size wires, besides the big starter wire. sounds like the one that feeds the ignition switch

fusible link. Check the ones coming off of the starter and the one on the fire wall above your brake booster. I lost power to my truck the first time and it turned out that the PO used stereo cable for the batt to starter wire and it fried.

I would go for the fusible link by the brake booster. I have had a couple go out in my lifetime and it is the one that goes. I now carry a couple that I collected from some junkyard dogs in my tool box. You never know.

Re: My truck died, complete electrical loss!!!

Thanks for the imput, got it going again. Found a corroded terminal on the fusible link on the firewall wire buss. Spliced in a new section and started right up.

Thanks again
