my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
How many of you guys can relate?? i know alot of you deal with the same thing. all i hear is, "you spend more time with your truck than you do me!"...or " you spend so much money on that stupid truck" , lol......
then again we just got married this past summer so it might be different than being 40 years old and married for 20 years...... haha just thought I would share this with everyone.... its so funny how most people dont appreciate these trucks like we do, and when i told my wife i was going to buy a 40 year old truck for 3600 she thought i was crazy, haha |

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
I've been married for a year next month and I hear it all the time with the bikes.
She thought I was crazy when I told her I wanted to trade my 2001 GMC for a 67-72 truck

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
I have had some pretty fast cars in my 29 year adventure with my first wife, She hated every one of them. " you drive them like you are stupid ". I always agreed. My last car was a zz502 bb 67 Chevelle. I am a VERY slow learner. I sold the Chevelle, bought my 69 swb, and she actually likes it. I bought a 72 2WD Blazer last week, and she actually drove it today. I am thinking the world will stop spinning on it's axis soon. VERY SOON. For all of you young guys out there: family, friends, and then the toys. Might not be the order you want, but it works for me

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
My wife encourages me to do stuff with our vehicles. As soon as the 66 gets some disc brakes and power steering on it, it's hers. She always wants to buy stuff for it. I once went to get a carb adapter and I turn around and she has a Hurst Pro Matic2 shifter bearhugged, looked at me with the "doe" eyes and asked if we could buy it. You damn right we can lol. Then she suggested headers. I was like alrighttt. Shes a keeper for sure. She also told me we can swap a 350 into the s-dime when the 66 gets straight

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
HAHA, I've been married for 6 months, as of tomorrow (10-26), and my wife keeps asking when it'll be finished. I've kept her involved through-out the project. You need to ask her opinion on some things, like color or something.... but, give her the options you're considering so you don't end up with a pink or purple truck. Read my build thread for some laughs regarding marriage and trucks. Oh yeah... only tell her about the good deals you get, not all purchases.

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
I made the mistake with my first wife, putting cars/trucks before her when we got married. Heck, we got back from our honeymoon on a Wed. and I had a new project on Friday. Many lessons learned over the 11 years we had together.
With my wonderful new wife (which we have been married 1.5 years now), I made sure I put her first, family and friends next and projects after that. We have had a wonderful marriage and will continue that. She does not get upset with projects but also does not feel neglected. Remember, happy wife means happy home. Good luck.

Quote:
$3600 is a small down payment for a new truck; followed by 4yrs minimum of $400 a month not including the required 'full coverage' insurance. Tell her your already saving @ least $400 a month. As far as the time spent w/o her . . .... You could be @ a bar, strip club, casino, another womans place..... The driveway/garage seems pretty safe vs. what some guys choose (from what I've heard ). Make sure she knows she's number one; the truck stuff is number two. But, make sure she understands that number two is what makes you who you are (she did fall for who you really are right?????). *All advice is courtesy of 20/20 hind-sight.

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
Don't think I could say it any better than you guys already have, but most all of us married guys have to deal with it. The one's who stay married are probably the one's who have figured out the right priority for their family, and their toy(s).

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
My wife WAS the same way, but now we've been married for 12 years and our son is 5, so I use it to get him out of her hair (and an excuse to get her out of mine )
Give it a little time man, especially if your newlyweds. Take her to a move once in a while or buy her a little something here and there, that should get you some extra time.

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
Iīve been married 20 years now but I have only had my truck for 2 years.
She knew that I always wanted to have a truck like my Dad had. Now that the kids are older and they are doing thier own things it isnīt a big problem. The thing I hear the most is "How much is that going to cost?" when I need to get a part but otherwise she likes my truck. Just like Chevy_Mike said, never put your truck or toys in front of your wife and kids and you will be just fine. I wish you alot of luck though. When I read this I had to think about this thread: Click Me!

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
I think the guys are right about the PR thing ,family #1 hobby #2 , I'm 50 and I've always had a project of some sort, it never gets easy if they just don't get it. One day I knew I had a cash outlay coming up and just didn't wont to go trough it so instead of being the boss and starting that game going I just went in told her what I needede said I guess she was right I should just rid my self of the head ache that I'm tired of asking permission I'm going to put it up for sale. Then I started stoping afterhours at new car lots looking for worthy replacments and looking at the stickers knowing about what the monthly out lay will be without talking to any sales people I began to talk about nothing else but options, when it came time to spend the money on my truck I just did it and went on, she only had a couple of weak questions about how much,so she could balince the check book and that was all for a few months, and as long as I keep cost of maintaince well below cost of new vehicle owenership she leaves me alone, for the most part but, she just doesn't get it at all.

Re: my wife HATES my obsession with my 69 chevy
Truck, what truck qccording to my wife the 4 wheeled love in my life is"The Other Woman".She claims I love it and the dog more than her.I don't but some days it's a close thing since the truck and dog don't B!+$4 !
I have a monthly allowance in my personal account and use that for truck stuff.I seldom have to ask for anything since I'm pretty frugal.I may not spend any for a couple of months and let it grow so I can buy the pricier stuff. We get along real well on that stuff.I do need to get her better trained on time management. She thinks I gotta go to the grocery store and such with her.I don't mind that but it shouldn't take up the whole day on Sat.I did have her set up to do it one night during the week.

Generally,a wife won`t appreciate "ANY" project until it`s all done and real nice. Then,it`s the best thing you ever did.You like "doing",she likes it "done".
