Re: Turbo headers/manifolds?

you tie the headers together with a crossover pipe into the exhaust housing for a single turbo(twins get their own manifold/header)

Re: Turbo headers/manifolds?

Do regular shorty headers work turned upside down, or do you need to re-weld flanges?

Re: Turbo headers/manifolds?

Im still looking into these as I haven't decided what im going to do yet. do you think single or twin turbo would be better for a daily driver/weekend warrior truck? thank you all for the replys.

Re: Turbo headers/manifolds?

www.ssautochrome.com on ebay has them. They had kind of a bad rap on the turboforums. I decided I would try them because I could buy the pre made stainless ones for less than I could buy the mild steel make your own header kit pieces. Mine look really good and I have used them all summer on my truck.
As far as single or twins, I have twins and if I could do it over I think I would do a single, it would be half as much work when building the plumbing and doing the oil feeds and drains. Just my 2 cents

Re: Turbo headers/manifolds?

thats a nicely made setup
let us know how it works and things you needed to change .
i'm realy trying to read up a lot on the small block turbo's now that my big block project has gone bust
it was too costly and was just too mush power anyways 1200 hp needs upgrading everything in the driveline wish makes the total costs for the setup about 3 times higher compared to going for 750-800 hp
the small block seems to be a better choice in terms of room around the engine and stuff available for it
i want to upgrade a 350 to forged internals bored and stroked to 383 (prolly scat and probe , vortec heads, a truckstyle low rpm torq cam a pro flow XT intake and megasquirt efi not sure yet on a single turbo or duals but it will be on the small side so it comes on boost fast and whont overtax the stock engineblock at higher rpms

scat now allso makes complete shortblocks using dart blocks wish would be a nice start too.

couple of nice tricks ive seen sofar is using a mecanical fuelpump blockoff plate to mount the returnline for the turbo on and using the stock oilpressure sender hole to take of the oil for the turbo using a T piece , the nice thing about this is that its undoable should you want to return the block into an natural asperated version

if anyone else has some good ideas about turboconversions i would like to learn about it

i complete 2 of the trucks intoo running fashion one custom and one basicly stock the thirth will be sacrificed for parts

Re: Turbo headers/manifolds?

If you turn shortys upside down you will have to bend away from the valve covers

Re: Turbo headers/manifolds?

Just an FYI but if you were to buy a set of stainless steel turbo headers they usually run at least $800 and a set of steel headers run at $600.

That's about right. I spent about $700 (incl 2 SS V clamps) on material and about $425 to weld up my turbo headers. All 304ss.
