stock 67 height to determine lift
I used late model Ford superduty leaves to lift my 67, and now I want to order shocks and need to know if I am within 4" of lift (bilstein 5100 series) or if I need special sizing (5150 series). So, can anybody tell me factory height from backing plate to frame or some other means of measuring just the suspensions lift front and back (measurements I neglected to write down . .)
or perhaps more to the point, without being able to drive the truck yet, how can I tell what the shocks need to be able to run compressed/extended? can I extraolate that from the static distance? Also I want the system to limit itself so shocks aren't damaged; not just "take it easy" so do I need to lower the bump stops? Thanks!

call Bilstein and ask for the off road shock dept. They are totally cool about helping you get the right shocks for your truck. and they do make 5125's in different lenghts for what you need. they are the same as 5100's.

i think stock hieght at the fenderwell with stock sized tires is 32"s but tire radius also factors in if you do not have a stock tire.

Re: stock 67 height to determine lift
i am hoping for a tire-less measurement, like hub center to fenderwell, but I think what I'll do is jack one side up and strap the body down to see how much comp. extension there is and then as Drbyrdman suggests, call Bilstein. I suspect, however, that either ext or comp will be maxed before the other, so I'll likely only have one sizing in the range, and have to make some kind of limiter for the other
I suppose it's better to design where you say, I want the shock to be capable of over the 28" of extension I see, which means I have to have 16" min compressed and so you move the bump stop down to stop the axle before it bottoms out the shock. Hopefully there will be a logical chocie out of the shocks available. I don't plan to do HEAVY wheeling, but I want the articulation controlled by the suspension and not the shock, as the shock will lose.

Re: stock 67 height to determine lift
i looked the 5125 up on another site for price, and they had a lst of sizes by compression/extension which I think is what I think they mean by custom sizes (versus application specific), but i'll look into those once I have some measurements. I think I like the 5150 resevoir for $10-$15 more.
