instrument cluster
Have 73 gmc p/u. Am installing an inst. cluster that is different than original. This replacement has an electric oil gauge. Would like to know where the sender wire is hooked up to, the wire in the cluster plug or directly to the printed circuit.

Re: instrument cluster
Since yours came with an amp gauge originally, you're also going to have to modify the amp gauge wiring to convert it to the volt gauge, otherwise you'll have crispy wiring as soon as you hit the key.

Re: instrument cluster
Be careful changing clusters from year to year . Search the board for info since I seem to remember, like Prong stated above, that if you change from an amp meter to a volt gauge , it can cause some track or wires to burn . I think bigblock73 has a writeup on the year differences on his website . Definitely search it a little before you swap it .

Re: instrument cluster
You don't want to use a non 73-75 cluster in a 73-75 unless you plan on rewiring the cab portion. This will cause a serious meltdown. Definitely don't plug it in with power to it.

Re: instrument cluster
Here's some good info i found. It's about tachometers, but has info about the amp guage and swapping oil psi guages too.
