4X4 shortbed frame?

I have a bare 4X4 shortbed frame and was told when I got it that it was a 68. But today a guy came by to look at some parts I have for sale and was told it was a 69-70 frame. My question is if there is a difference how can you tell the difference between a 67-68 to a 69-72 frame? Thanks Rick

Re: 4X4 shortbed frame?

saw this in an earlier post re: 67-68 4x4 frames
"everything on 67-68 suspension and steering is different and springs will need to be custom made OR swap all the mounts from a 69-72 which is what i would recommend. the front spring mounts on your 68 are cast and prone to cracking if your truck is going to be wheeled hard. "

The spring perches are the difference and are interchangeable. But,what you have is better. If it`s bare I`m not sure how it couldn`t be a 71/72.

Re: 4X4 shortbed frame?

I think you can tell by looking at the area where the steering box mounts but I might be wrong. I think the 69 and up frames were dimpled and most 68's weren't but I think some may have been.

Re: 4X4 shortbed frame?

couple of ways, if the frame area behind the steering box is "flat" then its a 67-68 but that's not always 100% true. If it has the raised pads then it more than likely is newer. The emergency brake cable brackets are a little different. And the big sign is the rear springs. They are longer on the 67-68 that's whay they don't sell lift kits for them. Send some pics and we might be able to help. No big issue either way except for the springs.
