Tires?

Well. I'm in need of tires. I would like something that does well in snow and mud, but I don't want some super aggressive swampers, but I would like something fairly aggressive. I was thinking Pro Comp Xtreme All-Terrains. My only problem is that I live way back in the hills, a long ways from anywhere, and the local tire shops charge really high prices for anything, over 500 bucks for anything. If you have any suggestions about different tire choices, tell me.

My question, are there any internet tire dealerships that will ship tires to my doorstep or to town for free?

Re: Tires?

Best to compare total price; free shipping could end up costing you more. Most sites will show shipping cost to any zipcode. For research, http://www.tirerack.com/ has data & reviews on many tires.

Re: Tires?

Is it an offroad vehicle or a DD. extreme all terrains are nice tires but expensive, might as well go with BFG M/T's. The BFG A/T's are nice but absoulutely suck in any kind of mud or muck what so ever and I would think they would be equally worthless in snow. I ran BFG M/T's on a DD once and I really liked them. That's my .02

Re: Tires?

Interco TRXUS--good in snow and mud plus quiet on the hiway.
I just got a set on ebay--no free shipping anywhere. JC Whitney offers free shipping, but charge a handling charge that is the same as other places charge for shipping.

Re: Tires?

Take a look at the Mickey Thompson Radial MTZ. I have a set on my 87 suburban and they work great. I have had them on for a little over a year and they are wearing great!

Re: Tires?

You have to weigh the shipping cost against sales tax.Figure, when you mail order from out of state you don`t pay sales tax. So,subtract that from the shipping cost for actual price differences.I always mail order my specialty tires and buy BFGs local or use my Sears card unless I can`t get a deal.Interco,Mickey Thompson/Cepek,Maxxis,Gateway,and those are always crazy high anywhere local for me.You also have to consider mounting and balancing. Some local places may do that free.Around here that`s $80.
Check out a mail order shop that`s closer to Nebraska.Shipping is priced in zone flat-rates alot of times.

Re: Tires?

i have ran the toyo open country mt tires on several different rigs and have to say they have been worth the money they are good in mud and snow but have wore good and racked up lots of miles. I have tried other brands in the past (i.e. bfgs, mickey, and off brands) but i never seemed to get the life out of them that i have gotten out of toyos.

That tire looks pretty good... I'll have to think about it.

It's a weekend warrior type rig, I use it primarily for hunting, but I do occasionally make a run to town with it. I mostly go threw patches of mud and snow, and sometimes they can be pretty thick.

By shipping charges, I wouldn't mine paying up to 30 dollars, but paying 100 bucks or more for freight is just a little rediculous.

Re: Tires?

i was dissatisfied with the interco33's i had on mytruck they wore out too fast i notived after traffic driving i had "peel" from the rubber on the fronts and back tires..

BAJA MTZ!! i loved those tires, i had 38's and they balanced out great and wernt too loud.. and man can they fling mud
i also currently have
PROCOMP x-mudterrain and regular mud terrains.. the only thing to stop me from traction with those was my differential hanging on some hard packed dirt..

both baja and procomps are radials which to me give a muuch better street ride to where you need to go.. and i run them at 35 psi and they are retty smooth... not too loud no loud humm nothing really and minnimalistic bounce betwee 30-70 mph..

not to be too descriptive but i loved both tires the deciding factor really is how much money are you willing to spend on them..
also my buddy has the toyo's on his truck.. he dosent like them they are too darn loud in my opinion you are buying a name mroe then anythign with those tires, but they do look good..

Re: Tires?

p.s.!
check local and multiple shops because their cost for each tire is waaaayyy under 200 a piece ( i had a guy show me my tires cost him 120 a piece for his tire store)
discount tire usually is really expensive on big tires..
and ordering them online unless they have free shipping lately has costed the same as picking them up locally..
good luck

Re: Tires?

I have the Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ on my ZR2 and they are great. They do pick up small rocks sometimes but I think most tires with this sort of tread will. Awesome on snow covered highways.

Re: Tires?

I just quoted a set of the new BFG KM2'a and got a really reasonable price plus I've heard a ton of great stuff about them.

Re: Tires?

I'll throw in a vote for the Toyo MT's. I've got them on my Tundra and they're great on the nasty stuff. Whatever you get have them siped. makes a huge difference.
