rim backspacing
i have a question, we installed the camaro subframe and rear differential under the 58 apache, i was just wondering what ppl are running for backspacing on their rims, we want to go with 17x8 for the front and 17x9 or 9.5 in the rear, any help would be appreciated. as we want to order rims soon.

Re: rim backspacing
I've got pretty much the same rear end under the 48 running 15x8.5 Enkie 32's and I think about 4 inch back spacing. I have about a half inch clearance between the tire and bed side.
I do know that a stock 15x7 steel passenger car rim and tire will not clear the bed side. I carry an old chrome reverse for a spare because of that. I think I would lay a straight edge on the surface of the drum/rotor that the wheel mates with and measure between it and the bed and then do your calculations. Measure it on both sides of the truck as there may be a slight difference between sides. you want figure in the clearance between the tire and the fender also as there isn't a lot of clearance there either. I don't think there will be a lot of issues on the front as long as you don't run too much offset. Last edited by mr48chev; 12-09-2008 at 08:21 PM. |

Re: rim backspacing
I have 16x8 5" back space on mine, same clip works ok. Check this web site they show you how to measure for backspace.

Re: rim backspacing
I am running 15x7 rally rims that have a 4.25 BS. The tires are 235-70s and I need a spacer to keep the inside off the bed sides when turning. Based on this I would say 4" is the max BS you could use on a rim on that truck. You will want to get the measurments of the rubber as it is mounted on the rim width of your choosing to ensure you have clearance.
You might want to do some measuring to ensure you have at least a half inch of air being the inside fender lip to keep your sidewalls off the paint. |
