Progress!!!
Well i finally got my truck pulled out of the back yard and got it to the garage. The truck has sat for two years so there was some wires that had got eaten! Fixed those new set of plug wires they were eaten to. Threw a battery in and crossed my fingers. NUTHIN! UGH. Go back and check some connections and prime fuel to the carb. Second try she fired like she was never parked! Only real problem was the new edelbrock carb i got is leaking like a bottomless bucket. I don't know about you guys but it sure feels good to accomplish things!

Re: Progress!!!
Well no pics but i was stressing over tires and the carb and out of the blue a buddy of mine calls and tells me he has a present for me! Head over to his house and in the driveway is 4 almost new 235/75/15s and a new edelbrock 1406 carb sitting there! I tell him i got no money and he says no worries. Makes you appreciate real friends even more! Going to swap the tires on to the stock rims this weekend now i am just trying to figure out what color to paint them????
I am thinking some sort of obnoxious shade of green. The kind of color that smacks your eyeballs! |

I'm in Alhambra now but headin towards the Inland Empire in April..... As all have said you are off to a great start!! Question - I am bout to swap out the q-jet carb on my pre 86sb with the 1405. Prob I am havin is the orig trottle linkage rod is bout 3/8 in diameter. The mount hole on the 1405 is 1/2" in dia. Did you run into this? If so what did you do to make this work? I did not see any "adapters" from Edelbrock. Can ya possibly post a clear pic of your 1406 carb and linkage? Much Thanks!

Re: Progress!!!
64c20crewcab- Sorry for the delayed response! I must have missed these replys. The way i did it was there are two holes on the arm the big 1/2" hole and one below it a little smaller than 3/8". I used the top one for the throttle return springs and the smaller one i drilled out and attached the rod there. I will post a pic for you when i get back to the truck, it's about 30 miles away!

Re: Progress!!!
Well well well I think today was the best day of my life other than my son being born! I got the carb rebuilt, put it on and she fired right up! Put some tranny fluid in and she moved under her own power! So i pulled it over in front of the garage and got the new tires and rims on (what a difference) while down there i checked all the wheel cylinders and shoes all brand new and not wet. Got it all buttoned up and took her for my first drive on the road!!!! Tranny works perfect down shifts when you mash it and all. After i finally get it running right I'm trying to figure out why it's running so rough. Well that's when the PO comes out and says oh yeah it's got a mild cam in it SCORE! Well here are some pics.
