88 2wd Blazer project

I justed picked this up yesterday. Man I have a lot of work ahead of me. I will be converting it to 2wd and probably going to go with the same theme I had on my truck.

Here's the now and before:

I will be pulling the body off pretty soon as I think I have found a Donor 2wd frame. I fugured it was be easier doing that than trying to scrounge up parts to do the other.

Here's a quick terrible chop of what it could look like.

Looks like a pretty nice blazer to start with! Is this going to be a long term project or something that will be done soon? I cant wait to see it done

noooo don't kill a good looking 4x4 by chopping off its balls and making it 2WD... at least find a 2WD for the work and have fun off road with the 4x4

hell I would be willing to trade you straight across my 2WD burb for that blazer...

In the past 30 years about 90% of Fords are still on the road, the other 10% made it home.

I have a 88 blazer I'd love to have a

2wd but the 2wd blazers any years or condition are very scarce in these parts

If I could have one without castrating a 4wd one as they say I would

just buy one it would be alot less work .

for those who don't know they stopped making 2wd bazers in 82 I believe

SQRBDY good luck finding a 2wd blazer frame to swap to maybe Texas has some around cuz Florida don't

interesting with all the thousands of blazers built 4wd since they discontinued
making 2wd models in the early eighties you mention converting one to 2wd
and the 4x4 guys faint and act like your putting their best stud out
to pasture as a gelding
4x4 guys these 2wd blazers are hard to find and as for suburbans and 4x4 blazers
I trip over $500 solid running trucks every day
it's frustrating trying to find the good ones
sorry guys just want a low blazer with out breaking the bank

I hope it's not going to be a drawn out project. I found an 82 2wd rolling frame today, it had some rust on some of the hangers but it looked like the frame had no rust but it was hard to tell because i couldn't see everything because the body was still on it. So my plans are to take the 2wd frame sandblast it and paint it then start building the suspension, install the new drivetrain and just pull th ebody off of the 4wd

nice truck, congrats on the purchase. Did you find a 2wd K5 frame, or a 2wd truck frame, or would that even work?

It is a 2wd blazer frame. Not sure if the truck would work, i think it is a shorter wheel base for starters.

Nice find. Looks like it's going to be sweet. Please don't turn this in to a "For Sale" post or it will be locked.

not my intention either... just mentioned I would trade my burb straight across... but as he is 10 hours away, I know it would never happen...

Re: I'm one of you guy's

Just an FYI, you could convert the 4wd frame to a 2wd rather than swapping frames.

That is now my intent. I've tossed this around quite a bit lately and have decided not to buy the 2wd frame for $500 simply because I think that is too much for a frame that I have to send out to have it blasted then see what I have to work with. Then I'll probably have to buy new bushings, brake parts, steering linkage etc. when it is all said and done it will probably cost me close to the amount I'll spend on a drop member setup and want be nearly as cool, plus this 4wd frame is super clean. I have decided to go with the porterbuilt drop member (I hope Nate will still let me have it for the sale price) and plan on ordering it next week.

On a second note I got a lot done on the project this afternoon and pretty pleased with what I am finding. The only problem areas I encountered were the front seat rear bolt holes (I think it will be an easy fix). The interior is completely gutted. I'll start working on body removal this week. Below are a couple of pics of todays progress.

and the new seats I got up this morning at 5:30 and drove to dallas to pick up

Re: I'm one of you guy's

Check with forum member Capt Kaos. He sells ACC and they are the best available.

I wish I had known you were looking to build a Blazer like this, I could have made you a deal on my 82 project.

Re: I'm one of you guy's

I went parts chasing yesterday and picked up a few goodies. I was thinkng about putting an LS motor but decided to go with a TPI injection system. I have a stroker motor from a previous project and thought this would look nice on top of it, plus I got it at a great price from a long time acquaintance.

I bought about 10 yards of the factory material that matches the seats I just bought and wrapped a sample piece. I really think this thing is going to be sharp, I am going to try and have it complete, minus paint, this summer.
