Re: PT cruiser door handle swap need info
EB~ Very nice, so does the PT handle contact the stock Burb latch or are changes needed? If I am looking at it right you just bolt the front hole in, fill a small area at the front of the rear handle, drill one hole for the rear mount and you are done!
Thanks Kevin LFD Inc. Last edited by Rokcrln; 01-05-2009 at 12:52 PM. |

Re: PT cruiser door handle swap need info
Kevin, thats pretty much it. Its been a few years since I did the last one and only on trucks, no burds yet. I'll have to look around for installed pics. The ones I have here are for my daily driver to be done some time in the future, when ever that is

Re: PT cruiser door handle swap need info
Here are just a few quick pics and info.
The handles will work well. They need to be moved forward about 1/2" to get them centered in the finger niche and also to get the rear nut on the stud. The next thing to deal with is they sit up hill just a bit and are not tight to the curve. So I am going to look into doing a slight notch in the lower section of the door for just the button part of the handle to sit in, about a 1/4" or so. The pic with the small notch was just to get it in place for testing. Also the inner latch will need a small mod but will be real easy from the looks of it. I will play with it on Tuesday and see what I come up with. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: PT cruiser door handle swap need info
Well this idea is out the window. I mocked it up last night and in keeping the handle tight to the body they are just tilted up hill way to much to look right. In making them more flat they are sticking to far out from the body and they just look to much like an add on. I was hopping for a subtle look but it just did not happen. You can see all the mock up pick over in the LFD's 4 dr Tahoe build in the projects section.
Thanks for the help on this, maybe next time! Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: PT cruiser door handle swap need info
With out having one in hand it is hard to say. Does it have a plunger that pushes striate out when you grip the handle Lille ours do now. If so than it would not be to bad to do.

Re: PT cruiser door handle swap need info
Kevin, the uphill tilt has been an undesirable look the pt cruiser handles. Sounds like you are scraping the idea. Everyone has their preference but I really like the pt handles. Why not try the opposite of your little stand and recess the bottom area of the handle area and see if maybe it looks better. If I have a few minutes tomorrow I'll mock one up and post a few pics

I thought about that as well but the amount that they would have to go in ( = to what I cane out almost) puts the handle real close to the body. So when you put your fingers in to grab the handle they hit both at the same time if you know what I mean. Now you could always take the pocket section out of a 60-66 and use that for the mounting area. The body roll is almost a dead ringer for the 67-72's. Kevin LFD Inc. And the PT handle is almost the same size as the 60-66 |

Re: PT cruiser door handle swap need info
That looks very nice. I like the attention to detail you did with the lower inset along the entire bottom edge. Care to give any tips on how you did such a nice job? Also is the latch hooked up now? I would guess to say that by setting it in like you did the button is almost in just the right spot to actuate the latch.
Again nice work as usual. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: PT cruiser door handle swap need info
The handles and pocket fit the door very nicely. Nice work.
