Re: 3/4 ton axles
should be. Dana 60's weren't used until the 73-up 1-ton 4WD. Dana 44's were used in 3/4 tons, and half tons used 44s until sometime between 78 and 81, after which they used ten bolt front axles.

Re: 3/4 ton axles
14 bolts showed up in 73. 67-72 trucks have either Dana 60 or Eaton axle. Dana 44 is all that would be in the front. Disc brakes 71-72, drums the others.

You sure about the rear though? I thought 69-72 4WDs came with 14 bolt rears, along side the Eatons?

Re: 3/4 ton axles
What year is the truck? The Dana60 front end never came in a K/20 and not until`77 (I believe) in K/30s.GM went to the 10-bolt front end in (I`m guessing)`78?`80?Somewhere around there.Never had a 4wd between `72 and`84,personally.So not real sure.

Re: 3/4 ton axles
Dana 60s are one ton front ends only, almost everybody, except Dodge, who put them in 3/4 tons equiped with the Cummins. Not sure when they began Dana 60 fronts though, maybe when they started 1 ton 4WDs? Somewhere between 78-81 they phased out 44 fronts, according to what I've read. I'm assuming 78 they started the 10 bolt and mixed and matched trucks until 81 when they stop putting even one 44 in anything.

Re: 3/4 ton axles
Dodge W200s had Dana60s in the late`80s for sure.I know a guy who ordered a cab`n`chassis one ton`70 4wd.I never went to see it,but believe this guy.I believe they put a D44 in there. The front didn`t have budd wheels.

So now that's we've totally hijacked the thread, going back to Dova, check what the front is. It's not hard to replace the front axle with something else. Who knows what somebody did. I've come to learn a lot of PO's are lunatics.

Re: 3/4 ton axles
From trucks I've seen over the years, 1/2t got a 44 up to 78-ish, 3/4t up to 80, which can depend gears. Pre 73 got Eatons, up to 80 all 3/4 and 1 tons got the 14ff. After that, hit or miss on 3/4 getting a full floater.
GM never put 60s in 3/4t, only 1 tons. That started in 77. They did have 1 tons prior to that, but just got the 44hd with big lockouts. Few and far between. Fords and Dodges put 60s in 3/4t, just about all the 60s that I've had were from a 3/4. Dodge started in the mid 70s, not sure exactly when. Ford did some stupid stuff, a low pinion 60 in 75-77s or something. Then 77.5 started the high pinion. In the 80s, only the 1 tons got the 60s again. Dodge could be either a 3/4 or a 1 ton to get one.

Re: 3/4 ton axles
When did Dodge get away rom the internal hub? They weren`t Dana60s were they?wasn`t that into the`80s?
This is good discussion. It`s not really a hijack. We`re just borrowing the thread until Dova comes back with what his truck is.

Fords used the HP60 in '78/79, then they dropped all solid front axles from their lineup from '80-85ish, when the F350's got HP60's back. I think 1991 was when they switched to balljoint knuckles, but i'm not sure.

Re: 3/4 ton axles
They came in the picture somewhere. I think in the twin traction beam era.

D50 up front? I think they did put them in still. I'd have to research more into it later, but I believe you're right.
