To keep up with a 2002 Z28 (or any 98-newer Z28)...you're going to need a lot more than some cheap horsepower. That was a mid 13 second car that wasted you, my friend. Unless someone's got the magic formula for 450 cheap horsepower that doesn't involve a nitrous bottle...

It's fairly easy to make cheap horsepower. The problem is getting the engine to last and or keeping the engine somewhat civil so you can drive it on the street. Tires, headers and 250 shot of no2 will take care of that Z28 but you might not make it home if you're adding it to a 100k mile stocker.

Even if you dropped in a 602 he would still waste you. On these trucks it is hard enough to get a modified 350 to "hook". If you want to do battle with one of those cars you need to work on the traction before you pump up the horsepower too much.

Another thought about "laughing gas" on the street.......if you have a switch go bad,& the NO2 is still flowing, you can have the throttle shut down& BOTH feet on the brakes,& the truck will still want to GO!!!!!I saw pics of a 9sec Vega that went through the front of a building after an NO2 burnout& a microswitch stuck. Everbody walked away......after they changed their shorts, but the car was a total.....didnt help the building either.......69

Performance in a drag race is simple. Power to weight ratio + traction + driver reaction. If you are missing any part, you lose. That is why you can have a huge big block and get you doors blown off by a motorcycle with 1/4 the motor. It would take mega bucks to make one of these trucks beat a camaro from a stop. If you want to play with a camaro, install your big block and get them to run you from a 60 mph punch.

If you want to beat the Camaro, install your big block, but put it in the bed. Horsepower is great on a dyno, but it means nothing if it doesn't make it to the ground.

Your going to need 500hp and a lot of torque so thats a BB, 540 should do it. Your going to need a locker, a very built trans, and some real sticky rubber. I did a 79 deVille about 15yrs ago that spun a 12.01 1/4, no bottle, no puffer. Your pushing a lot of weight and air so load up the bed.
