So I just got my FCG alum. fuel cell, and its awesome! But I need help..... I know this topic has been covered alot, but I couldn't find the answers I was looking for in a search...... once I figure out where it bolts up in the frame, what is the best way to cut a filler hole? It will be straight through the floor of the bed, and I don't plan to have any fancy cover welded on or anything. Do I have to cut a big enough hole to get my whole hand in there and open the cap? Or can I make it extend out enough to where I can just pop a cap off up top. I don't know what to do!

This choice is, OF COURSE, yours to make. I have seen many filler holes in the bed and most of them use one of the aluminum filler covers that is made for the sides of the late model trucks. The owners route out the wood and set the cover down into the floor. If the bed is not wooden, then they make a round hole to bolt it to and then it sets slightly higher than the floor. I have deep dark thoughts of it getting caught on something sliding around in my bad, so I personally would inset the filler cover some. I have also seen many use the sheet metal covers from a later truck that is blended to the floor and it just opens like it would on the bedside.

As for the hole size, if you want a small hole, then make it so, but make it so that you can get the cap off without going into a tool box for a pair of waterpump pliers everytime. I also had a friend put his filler in the bed's rear stake pocket and run the fill tube under the bed to the side and then turn up through the bed's body work.

Look for the fill hole in the wood bed that is in the pictures.

I like this one and you dont't need to remove the cap to put gas in it.

You are right about the filler in the wood bed--it is at the bottom of the picture. It is made of the same wood and almost disappears, when covered.

Attached is the picture of a 71 with the filler in the stake pocket. They used an Arlen Ness motorcycle gas tank filler. You push down on it and it pops up and then you can unscrew it.

I really like that stake pocket filler!

On the wood bed with the inlays...too bad the pic doesn't show the whole filler...that's a nice piece of work!

Hey thanks for the replies guys. I like the idea of that marine filler, it looks good. Can I attach that to my fill tube so that I just open the top to fill?

It was in the back of a 30's something street rod truck. He told me he got the whole deal from a street rodders place for parts.

Hey phipp thanks for the offer, but I used Shiftys method of bolting the OG gas cap on with a carriage bolt.
