bbc headers

I'm in need of some new headers and wondering which ones you guys are running on you're big block. I bought the tubular mounts with energy suspension polyurathane mounts and i think they were for small block. My headers were hitting the lower a-frame on one side and put a pretty good crease in them. So i'm replacing my mounts with solid ones that look to be about 1/2 to 1" longer which will help my new headers miss my a-frame. I'm not going to use the cheap hooker headers because one of the primary tubes hit my oil pan. I'm thinking about trying to find some with 2" primaries with a 3 1/2 collector. Do you guys think that these will be to big for my high reving 431 bb?

Re: bbc headers

I don't know how well mine would fit a truck with the stock front end and mounts since I have mustang II and motor plates but I have hooker super comps from a malibu. I had a couple of the tubes slightly modified for extra clearance.

I wish you were closer I would let you try these

I run 2" Hooker Super Comps with a Moroso kick out sump oilpan and have no issues with tubes touching.

Re: bbc headers

i have hedmans and they do fit pretty good, but just wanting bigger primary tubes with larger collector and hedman doesn't make them to fit our trucks. I'm leaning on buying the hooker supercomps for a malibu like dj and regan are suggesting. Wish i could try your's dj. Anybody know how much shorter they are compared to the supercomps that are made for our trucks? I would like them to be up a little bit more, but if they are to much shorter then i would have to redo my exhaust. thanks for the help.

Re: bbc headers

I have the "Tight Tubes" they are by headman I think and are a little expensive for the size of them I figure, but they fit awesome, with no clearance issues. and have heavy wall 2" primaries and a 3" collector. they are shorties, but I need them since I am bagged. but this way since I am running dual 3" exhaust i figure a 3" collector is fine.

and also since they are shorties, i can run my exhaust in the frame rails.

Re: bbc headers

those stan headers look very nice, but where they merge into single pipes looks like they would be restrictive then they yet merge into a small collector. I guess they help with pulling exhaust out?

Re: bbc headers

Called jet hot and they are having a 30% sale on their coated headers. Told me that they would be $545 and i wouldn't have to pay for shipping being that they have a facility here in oklahoma city. But as usual i'm a day late, they are sold out of the supercomps that fit our trucks and the chevelle headers. That would of been a savings over $200!!! dang it....

Re: bbc headers

The only bad thing about the coated headers ,if yours is like mine the flange hits the arp head bolts on the bottom of the header flange and youll have to trim it down for clearance , and the raw steal is exposed, but you may have a fix for that,,,vince

That much money on headers and i may have to trim them? You would think that these header companys would catch that. Thanks for the heads up!!!

Re: bbc headers

I run Hooker Comps for a Chevelle, good fit to the frame but they are unequal length. I don't know if they fit stock BBC mounts, I use L6 mounts that are modified to clear the first tube. Good ground clearance which was important to me. I had the problem with the flange and had to grind it to clear the outer head bolts, heartbreaking when they are coated! They have not caught up with the market on that one.

Re: bbc headers

I ordered these headers april 14th. I talked to jet hot today to check on them, and they said that hooker had to build them. They won't receive them until the 15th. of May. Then it's going to take them around 10 days to have them coated. That's over 40 days!!!!!!!!! Does this crap happen often on these kind of orders? I've never waited this long for parts..........

Re: bbc headers

Just got off the phone with jet hot and they still haven't received my headers from hooker. They then said that they may not receive them until the 26th of may. So i called hooker myself and the lady that i talked to also said that they were still on back order. I ordered these damn things on the 14th of april. She also said that she will check with production and get back with me. So i thought that id go ahead and just cancel the hole thing so i called jet hot back. Then they told me that it would be 2weeks to get my money credited back to my account. So if i wait to get my money back that long i might get my headers by then... I'll never do business with these 2 companies again...

Talking Re: bbc headers

Im running the hooker super comp 2 tubes with 3 1/2 collectors coated headers on my 1972 blazer chassis and had to trim the hell out of booth frame rails on top. The plus side for me was I moved my engine back and down and with around 4 plus inches of drop and 26.5 tall tires I still have 10 inches to the ground from the collector. I have used chevelle headers in the past with some luck but after fitting these, im very happy. I will say putting a 598 talldeck with drag pan, bowtie prostock heads, tall valve covers and a victor intake into this stock front chassis was a little more than a 1 day job but the look is right on.My 4 inch cowl hood still gives me 2 plus inches over my air cleaner and my engine is 38 inches from pan to air cleaner lid.

Re: bbc headers

Well i canceled my order with jet hot because of hooker not producing any headers. I received my money back and ordered a set through summit and received them today. This is what i should of done to begin with... Anyways, on the passengerside, one of the primary's hits my front crossmember. Should i grind the crossmember down or dimple the header? It doesn't need much at all. I already moved the motor back as far as i could without redrilling my motor mounts. I'll install the other side tomorrow. I tried to install it today, but ran out of patience. Looks like i'm going to have to remove the oil filter to allow me enough room to swing them in there. Once i have these things fitting, i'm going to take them to jet hot here in okc and have them coated. They said that they will give me a pretty good discount. Also, it looks like i'm going to have to replace my transmission crossmember with a tubular one.. Has anyone else had to do this? Also what one do you guys recommend?

Re: bbc headers

Hey man...sorry you had some bad luck here. Why are you needing to change your tranny mount?

If it were me....(and the OKC farmtruck did the same thing) I would just grind for clearance on the frame. That way you are not taking a hammer to your brand new headers. It's just me tho. Other people will do it their own way but dimpling the header I'm sure will be just fine also.

Re: bbc headers

The supercomps don't hang as low as the hedmans that i had. Also, these headers are quite abit longer and come pretty close to the tranny crossmember. From the looks of it, i won't be able to run my exhaust below or above it because the exhaust tubing wont bend that short of an angle that quick..

Installed new supercomps yesterday. Had to buy a new transmission crossmember in order for exhaust with new cut outs to clear. Here's a few pictures....
