Haulin with bags?
Anybody here have pics of a bagged truck hauling stuff in the bed? Like plywood or anything?

Re: Haulin with bags?
No pictures, but buy ones with proper ratings and you`re good to go.Air bags are used on semis and buses.I installed bags on four corners of my`95 K3500 work truck.I removed most of the rear leafs to make them soft enough for the bags to dominate.I got them through A&W Direct Tow Truck catalog.AirLift has been selling bag for many years as a payload increaser either within coils or mounted indepandently.

Re: Haulin with bags?
Thanks. I know about the load leveling ones. I want to see bagged(slammed) trucks hauling.

Re: Haulin with bags?
I think most people who slam their trucks typically STOP using them as trucks. (one of my biggest pet peves) I'm not sure of the exact dimensions... but, if you tub a bed to stop tire rub, then you probably can't even FIT a sheet of plywood in between your wells. IIRC a regular fleet bed is likt 4' 2" between wheel wells
Which is fine... for a "lifestyle truck"

Just a guess, but Special-K probably had to figure out his own: 1. ride control system 2. air bag brackets 3. desired minimum and maximum height of bag 4. desired load capacity 5. plumbing You can pretty much go to your local spring shop, and they can assist you with bag choice. And, any of the air suspension boys can sell you ride control... but you're still going to have to figure some things out on your own. UNLESS you want to scrape your frame on the pavement THAT comes in a kit!

B E A UTIFUL satin GMC! 22.5s or 24.5s?
Hard On... You are obv. not the "most people" I refered to in my first post. But, I bet you can't even fit 1/2 a sheet of standard ply in any of those beds

Re: Haulin with bags?
These are two buddies trucks, I have another friend that is bodydropped 4" but he hauls concrete, 2X4's and plywood all the time. His truck bed looks like any other contractor bed, beat up.

Re: Haulin with bags?
This used to be my truck, I built it and sold it to a friend. Leaf rear with airbags on schrader valve to haul his 24' boat. When he was roofing his garage we took it down to pick up plywood and shingles. Guy running the forklift was scarred to put the plywood in the bed. He kept asking "Are you sure?" over and over. 13 sheets went in and the truck did not squat more than 2". We drove out and went back to his house no problem. The only problems this truck has is getting high centered on speedbumps...... |

Re: Haulin with bags?
My`67 project with 4/6 static drop and no c-notch will eventually get bags to replace the coils so that "I can" haul and tow.
I wasn`t just refering to auxilary bags. The ones on my 1t used with 2 leafs "was" the raer suspension with the leafs acting as mounts/locators for the axle.On front they were auxilary to keep the tweeked t-bars from saging with a load on my ladder racks. It was lifted w/o a lift kit and I coul drop the rear for a better working height while on the job.

Re: Haulin with bags?
This is the only pic I have of the truck loaded. Its not a big load, just some camping gear, but I do still use it as a truck. When we go camping for a week I load it down pretty good with firewood, stocked ice chests and all my other camping gear, but I also use it to haul plywood, help friends move, whatever I need to haul. The truck was built to be a daily driver and still useable as a truck, so the gas tank was relocated under the bed and the air tank is behind the seat to keep the bed open. Its got 22x9.5's in the rear with stock width wheel tubs, but the bed floor was raised 5 inchs so the fuel cell could be raised so it wouldnt drag. One thing to remember is, to get a truck that low you gotta have a big notch up through the bed, so the floor wont be flat anymore. Hope this helps.

But the caprice had a factory towing package with a valve in the trunk to air up. I'm not dead sure what they expected anyone to tow with that tired old 267, but lord knows it could barely pull me and a friend up a hill by the time I was driving it!

Re: Haulin with bags?
I'd love to get a 97-03 or so S10 and bag one. I have been wanting to do that for years. If I do ever build it, my bed wouldn't be useable though. It would have the air tank, a fuel cell, the middle cut out, and then smoke stacks in the front because I would want to put a 4BT Cummins in it. I also think it would be awesome to make it into a dually. The hardest part would be fabbing up the fenders though. I was thinking a set of current Ford dually fenders may work because those truck have a similar body line with the S10. I also think 67-72s look sweet when bagged and so do the 63-66s. I just want to be able to drive around on the ground shooting sparks all the time.

Re: Haulin with bags?
[/QUOTE] This is insane ! It reminds me of driving a friends 97 Chevy 1500 on the 405 frwy. in L.A. at night. We lit up the night with sparks and thought it was cool. Well we lost OD when we got to Bakersfield and we made it to Selma and the tranny was fried. Little did we know we scraped the tranny pan and were slowly losing fluid. He doesnt drive his truck slammed anymore. I hope these guys dont tear up their trucks. I must admit, those are sweet looking trucks with semi wheels !!! Someone needs to do a 67-72 that way

If I ever get a truck on bags, I would see about welding some metal plates to the frame so you will wear those away and not your frame or tranny or anything like that.

It's just a matter of building it with your intended use in mind...
