That's too cool!
Who remembers Cookie in his 'vette. The show was called "Route 66" I believe.

If you are any kind of gear head at all you would love that. I hate to admit it but I was there when it happened. I guess that makes me old huh?

Would love to see that done for the next generation...late 60's muscle cars and our trucks.

I guess it's up to us to make it happen. I've offered to help my grand kids build an old truck and no takers.

Re: Nostalgic... "The Cars we Drove"
That was very cool!! And very well done as well.
It made me remember my dad's old car club front plate, the "Gasket Blasters".

"Cookie" Ed Burns and Connie Stevens were in 77 Sunset Strip. Route 66 starred George Maharis and Martin Milner, I vaguely remember watching every week on the ole b/w TV. I may be giving away my age here.

Being a few years after you guys... I drove a 69 road runner, nothing power 'cept for the 440 six pack. Used to run consistent mid 12's at the local track w/closed exhaust & street tires. Last edited by vtblazer; 01-25-2009 at 12:10 PM. |

The part I left out (intentionally) were the specs on the motor. Balanced, MAJOR head work, solid cam, full roller rockers, elec. ignition, headers and I had changed the center carb out from the stock 250 cfm to a 500cfm. Had 1500cfm worth of carberation, no vac. secondary, full manual flush. Ran around town on the center carb and used the outboards as secondaries. Posted the pic for proof. Re: Nostalgic... "The Cars we Drove"
Street racing rule...never lift your hood. We used to debadge them
Does that mean I can raise the flag on you

Re: Nostalgic... "The Cars we Drove"
You guys were way out of my league. After driving a 71 Hornet for a while, I could finally afford a car of my own, a 68 Camaro, straight 6 with a 2 speed power glide and rusted rear quarters. I loved that car, but sold it so I could buy a 71 Camaro from SC, 307, 123,000 miles, but no rust. Worked on and drove that thing for over 3 years.
We never had a place to race...legally, so never put a lot of $$ into motors, (mainly because I didn't have the $$). Still have a lot of good memories of those, as well as about 12-15 other cars and trucks over the years.

Re: Nostalgic... "The Cars we Drove"
I know you guys like pictures. Thought you might get a kick out of some of my old iron. Actually most of it was new at the time. Shows my age. My fun car was the green 66. Was a Hemi head, and after I built it, it was downright scary.

Re: Nostalgic... "The Cars we Drove"
Nice choice of cars, impeccable taste...I remember the scary part, hard to get them to go strait at WOT
Which one would you like to have back?

That's it! Sorry about that. New I could count on you guys to straighten me out. My rides were mainly imports: MGB, MGC, Spitfire, Bug until I stepped up to a 68 Camero RS, 327, 4spd........ I loved that car, but insurance killed it for me. Later I went with a 65 Mustang Fastback, bought for $300 back in the day. Proceeded to completely rebuild it with all the Shelby parts I could find. Wish I still had that one.

Re: Nostalgic... "The Cars we Drove"
Thanks guy. Actually, I'd like to have any of my old cars back. But mostly I kick myself for getting rid of the Plymouth. Would like to have what they're selling for now days. Going straight was a problem with all the old cars. You had to drive them all the time. But stopping was the biggest problem with the 66. More motor than brakes. Ah, the good ole days.
