Electrolysis and Powder Coating

Having removed the rust from various suspension parts, I am left with a black coating on the parts. Can anyone, from experience, tell me if this black coating must be removed to successfully powder coat the part? Also, what is that black coating?

Yes, the part must be bare metal before you can powder coat it. Helps to clean it off with solvent cleaner before poweder coating it.

The place where you take it will be able to prep the metal for power coating. Give them a call and see how "clean" the parts have to be.

Re: Electrolysis and Powder Coating

Thanks for the replies. I am doing both the electrolysis and powder coating myself. I have always sandblasted the parts but thought I would try electrolysis instead this time.
