Re: Superbowl edition.. what did you get done this weekend 2/1/09

After spending $650 on my 97 at the local Chevy dealership for them to fix my speedo and gas gauge that lasted all of 20 miles, I found it had a intermittent connection. I had accidentally stumbled across the problem and isolated to the under hood fuse panel which I could slap the top and they would start working again till I hit a bump.

I had been driving it for a couple months like this (not a dd) and finally tore into it today, After a hour of playing around with wires and connections I found the problem to be the ECU-2 fuse plug connector inside the panel. It looked like someone had crammed something in there and spread it open so it wouldn't grab the fuse tight enough.

Had to take the panel apart and slide that connector runner out to squeeze the connector in so it would grab the blade of the fuse tightly.

I'm as happy as a pig in slop that I found the problem and got it fixed, But one po-ed sob that it cost me $650 for nothing....

Hay Bob, if you want to continue the conversation thats cool, if not, also cool. Do your wife and brother in law even remember why they weren't speaking? I've been there and am SO sorry I was. Encourage them and keep them moving in the right direction. Best of luck to you all. E-mail "jmcclur2@nycap.rr.com". BTW, I didn't do a danm thing and won't till it's warm out again. Jim

Re: Superbowl edition.. what did you get done this weekend 2/1/09

Been sick all week but still managed to do a little in the garage. I spent yesterday at a volleyball tournament watching my daughters team win their first event of the season. After that I was running service calls till late.

Today I did a few chores then went to work in the garage. I spent a few hours organizing boxes then went to sorting my old bolt bin. I still had boxes of bolts packed from when I moved here 9 years ago. I managed to get three boxes emptied out so I felt like I had accomplished something. Finished the day by washing cars.

I could care less about football, but I watched the Superbowl anyway. Pittsburgh again...big whoop.

Re: Superbowl edition.. what did you get done this weekend 2/1/09

Saturday we went to a roller skating birthday party in Huntsville, AL for my niece and nephew. I have a 5 year old that wanted to skate, so I put on skates and took out my mom as soon as I stood up. Hadn't been on roller skates in two decades, but it went surprisingly well after awhile.

Today I watched the kids because the wife had to work. Saw the super bowl, which was a pretty good game in the 4th quarter.

Re: Superbowl edition.. what did you get done this weekend 2/1/09

I stuck new 4:10s and all new bearings and seals in the rear end of my 96 z71. I also played around with my 88 s15 jimmy that was my high school truck.. I pulled it out of the swamp where it had been sitting for the past 6 years.. stuck a new pump and sending unit in it, put the wheels and tires off my camaro on it.. New radiator, hoses, plugs and wires and an oil change and put insurance back on it.... man it brings back old memorys from high school, sneaking out, parking in corn fields...etc....lol Second test drive I got pulled going 76 in a 55.....4 points.....eekkkk.....just like old times I guess........

My wife, daughter and I went to the zoo on Saturday...it was in the 40's and felt sooooo good! With the exception of the 31st, the entire month of January was spent below freezing! That evening we all went to a friends party, that was fun too...seeing all the old friends and such. Sunday I bent up all the speaker brackets, boxed some of them, and watched the Super Bowl.

^^ I hear you on the finally above freezing. It was mid 40's here on Saturday afternoon so after I got done with work I came home and assembled my tool box I received for christmas...

Nothing special, just a Craftsman ball bearing unit, it should work great for me. That's my other tool box set-up next to it.

Then on Sunday went and helped a friend do some work on a car and looked at a potential parts truck for my 82. I need to find a money tree and shake the hell out of it.

Re: Superbowl edition.. what did you get done this weekend 2/1/09

Not really anything truck related. I picked up another snowmobile an early 90's Polaris triple carb with a new track. Its got some get up and go just got to give it a tuneup and get it running decent. Went out sledding all saturday and came back to town today in time to watch the super bowl. Nothing really car or truck related all weekend lol thats a first

Drywall on Saturday. Insulated and sheathed half the new parts shed yesterday. 35+ degrees, supposed to hit -5 again Wednesday night. Guess the roof will wait a while. No truck stuff but still accumulating parts for the big spring thrash.

Didnt get any work done of my trucks but I did put about 100 miles of cruising around town on the blazer this weekend . I cant believe how much power that thing has with a basicly stock 454 big cam and 3:07 gears.

Motor/tranny in my crew cab was supposed to be done Friday but didnt get a call from the shop. I guess If I go by mechanic time it should be done by next Monday ha. It was scheduled to have the frame shortened this week.

Re: Superbowl edition.. what did you get done this weekend 2/1/09

I put a new 700r4 trans in the '83, and it shifts beautifully. It was the easiest trans I have ever put in; no rusted bolts, not greasy, easy access. The only problem was that I did it myself. The truck is lowered, and my jackstands wouldn't lift it high enough to get the trans in/out from under the vehicle while still on the floorjack. Getting that thing back on the jack while laying on my side nearly kicked my butt. I feel like I went 12 rounds with Mike Tyson.

I am so happy that the trans works awesome, and now I'm motivated to get it back on the road. Lots of little stuff to do before that, though.

Re: Superbowl edition.. what did you get done this weekend 2/1/09

I spent Friday night searching for a car for my wife. I worked till 3 on Saturday, then I spent some time at home diagnosing some FORDS. Late, Saturday I finally got to drive the old truck around until the lower radiator hose clamp broke and blew all of the coolant out. Fixed the truck on Sunday, shot a few clips in my new gun, ate some wings and watched the game.

Dad and I worked out the kinks in the vacuum system in my 85 c10. Whoever "worked on it" before me had this thing completely bassackwards. Probably trying to make up the lack of power that was actually due to a rusted frozen distributor! Hoping this will bring the gas mileage to at least above 10mpg. So far running smooth!

I have been out of the country for over a week. I was in town long enough to finish up my wood bed and bolt it down on the frame and get new tires mounted on it! I only lack finishing the windows, putting the doors panels back together, i'm waiting on the tach to come back from being repaired/rebuilt, and put just a little more r134 in the a/c system. It will be close to a year since it has been on the road! I only hope that I remember how to drive it! There isn't much that hasn't been rebuilt or replaced on this truck now! LOL...

nothing truck related!

Organized a door-to-door check of 47,000 residences in my town as part of the state wide directive to contact everyone and verify there safety after the worst ice storm in KY history crippled us last week.

Other than that, not much!! - lol

Before and after. I got rid of the 255/70r15 and put on some new 275/60r15 and dropped the front about 2 inches just to get rid of the gap next i'll get some shackle's and drop the back about 1 inch to kinda level it out.
