Figured this would be just as good of a place to post a CB question than any other section...since you don't see to many 2wd trucks with them.

I have a cheesy Radio Shack CB right now in my Blazer. It doesn't work good at all & the feedback noise in it is ridiculous

So I'm looking to purchase a new one.
Also would like the PA option on it; just for fun. Cause this weekend discover the CUCV parts truck (former fire dept brush truck) we bought has 2 like new PA speaker mounted in front of the radiator I can rob. If nothing else, it'll be fun to use when hollering at my 5 yr old to come to the shop when he's across the yard

Learned the other day that the antennas are supposed to be tuned to the receiver...seems like it's more to them than I originally thought (hook up hot, ground, antenna, & talk).

Anyway, what's y'alls experience with CBs: What are some brands/models to stay away from? What works good for you? Good/bad antennas? How/where is yours mounted?

When I get home Ill post mine. With some pictures. Not all antennas have to be tuned. Just if you have a high dollar set up. Which is mainly in over the road big rigs

anyway as for antenna I would use FireStick or Wilson

Well scratch the pics. The camera is in mom's car. However yes both me and dad use cobra 29 LTD I use dual 5 foot firestick's mounted to the toolbox and dad has a bracket he made for his dodge to mounts to one of his fender bolts and the antenna comes out the side of his hood and he uses a single wilson 4 footer. Then for dads big-rig he uses a galaxy radio, however those tend to be a little over kill for just daily driver pick-ups.

not metering your radio is like brewing coffee with no filter, you can do it but its more enjoyable if you do it right.not to mention it will burn out your radio after a while if the match is off to bad..

Uniden 520XL and a Firestick... reliable as hell. Use this setup in all our dumptrucks and in the heavy equipment we use the 510XL and a Firestick.

I have a Uniden 520XL Pro in my truck with a Wilson whip. I had to take probably 3/4" off my whip to get the SRWs within acceptable tolerances. The radio cost me about 100 bucks, the whip mount cable were another $150.

Been extremely reliable, I swap the radio between my trucks a fair bit, and have no complaints about it
