Rear Suspension Options

i have a '55 chevy pick up and i was wondering if anyone has tried putting a s-10 blazer rearend on a '55 or any 55 - 59 chevy truck?

Also i was wondering what anyone thinks about whats the best option for rearends on this particular truck i have heard alot of people using a 9" ford im trying to stay away from that but i have heard alot of people use camero rearends.

Does anyone know the dimensions of a camero rearend and would it work on my '55 chevy truck?

Re: Rear Suspension Options

The s-10 blazer rear is very popular because of the factory disc brakes.

The camaro will work with the right spring seats. Ive seen and I have a rear from a late 70's model truck going under mine.

Re: Rear Suspension Options

So the mid 80's early 90's s-10 blazer rear is the one to get from a 4X4?

Re: Rear Suspension Options

look at cal 58 gmc and he used a 2x4 s-10 blazer rearend but it was because they are already narrow ans it has disc brakes so its a nice look i have never heard of putting a late 70's rearend on these truck i would like to know more about that in detail.

Re: Rear Suspension Options

When i bought mine it had a 12 bolt 1979 rear out of a truck. It also had a MII front end so it had different bolt patterns front and back. When I installed the ART 4 link I used a 4x4 4 dr rear s-10 blazer rear with discs. I was told the position of the discs is different with the 2 dr to 4 dr. As well the 4x4 rear is 60" wide and the 2x4 is 58".
With 15x8 gm ralley rims I still needed to use 2 1/2" spacers to move the wheel away from hitting the box. I think I could have gotten away with 1.5" spacers though.
