1962 C-10 Truck interior
I am resotoring a 1962 chev truck and I have taken out the interior and intend to move the gas tank to the frame area behind the differential.
Has anyone removed the old gas tank foundation. I looks like it can be cut with a grinder leaving only the bottom and back plate. It would be better if the entire thing is removed but I can not see how to cut it loose without damaging the cab body. I have removed all the gages and wiring behind the dashboard. Can the dashboard be removed from the truck to make the work easier. I am removing the front windshield. I can see the bolts on each side but do not see any up next to the windshield. The truck is a fleetside long bed. Can I just bolt on a new short step side bed. I plan on buying a new bed. Any comments would be helpful and this is my first restoration on a truck. I believe there are numerous spot welds holding both the tank supports and dash in place. You will need to drill all the spot welds to free these parts. The tank supports are also your body bolt mounts.

Re: 1962 C-10 Truck interior
I just cut off the part that stuck out, and left the rest. lots of pot welds to deal with otherwise.
this is a pretty strong spot as it served as a body mount for the BIG lcf's |

Re: 1962 C-10 Truck interior
You cannot just bolt in a short bed in a long bed truck. A long wheel base frame is about 2' longer than a SWB. Longbed trucks have been shortened (they did it on the show "Trucks" on Spike), but it's pretty extensive.
Good luck and welcome from Santa Fe, NM.
