My Blazer face lift, with I-Frame lift and interior redo many PICS

Hello all, I sold my 72 Cheyenne Super SWB Stepside to 72customdeluxe, although I had mixed feelings about selling, I know he went to a good home. I am in my 40's and just not enough time or youth to have done a frame off on the Super. I am devoting my extra time to the Blazer, Jtrux came over and assisted in welding an I-Frame (I got the idea from a board member, I just made some changes) to lift it off and store. I took the top off and it stores nicely above the Blazer's new home. Over the Fall/Winter we built a 20'x40' gym/garage and storing the Blazer top is ideal in the 12' garage ceiling. I have also decided to give the Blazer a face lift, replaced the dash pad, carpet, new seats, add fatmat, jute, and added an AM/FM radio with a factory speaker "challenging" to install, thanks to big_al for sending me a speaker bracket for free. Well here are some pics and more to follow of the fatmat installation, new seats, carpet etc...

Re: My Blazer face lift, with I-Frame lift and interior redo many PICS

Now the K5 will have factory tilt, factory tach, AM/FM radio w/factory spec speaker, new seats, carpet, dash pad, and A/C working fine. All I need are some factory tow hooks and I'm set BTW it was a very tight fit to install the factory AM/FM radio and speaker, I have no idea how they did it on the assembly line LOL but with one speaker it sounds good. I got the speaker from www.turnswitch.com helpful guys and fast shipping. For the price of the AM/FM radio, its best to go with the right ohm speaker Fatmat is next, with jute, and carpet installation and finally seats and I'm done. Its very tempting to keep on going, engine detail etc... but I love the top off and ready to drive the K5, it was 75deg today, beautiful weather!

Re: My Blazer face lift, with I-Frame lift and interior redo many PICS

I had some paint left over and painted the I-Frame the same color. I'm very sad about the Super, but 10-15 years ago I would have done a frame off. Kevin (72customdeluxe) will do a a nice job with the Super, atleast a board member got him. Thanks again for the welds, I have got to get myself a Miller mig welder!

Wow!!!! Richard i'm totally jealous!! That is one slick setup. The garage/gym is insane. It looks more like another house. The Blazer is looking good. Gimme a shout the next time your working on it, I'll give you a hand. Well, not really, I'll be checking it out more than working on it. Later, Mario.

Looks great. I wish the original owner of mine didn't have the dash cut for the am/8-track. I'd love to have the factory radio look. I can't believe how dust free the underdash is on your truck. How did you get it so clean?

Re: My Blazer face lift, with I-Frame lift and interior redo many PICS

Thanks Mario, Bouncy... the po told me the top had never been taken off in 35 yrs, I bought the K5 in 2007. I can believe it looking at the gaskets, rubbers, underdash, etc... when I took it off last year. Its pretty clean overall and we are going to enjoy it. My boys love it and my wife is warming up to the color but likes it with the new interior I do like the factory AM/FM radio look!

Those seats look excellent, really like the color.

How do you raise & lower the top from the ceiling?

I think the 'Murphy' in me would install some sort of redundant system to keep it up there though.
No offense meant, just me.

I agree, how's the radio sound?

That stepside must've been hard to part with...

Re: My Blazer face lift, with I-Frame lift and interior redo many PICS

Thanks guys, vt... I am 99.9% sure the top is ok (the only thing I am 100% certain about is death and taxes ) up there. In fact, I tend to over engineer everything I do for safety. I used 2,000 LB eye hooks and used chain to hold it up. I also used a 2,000 LB engine chain hoist. I reinforced the hole in the ceiling to the rafters etc... I used 800 LB cable to box up everything. More pics to follow, I will finish the K5 by this weekend, hopefully.

I had a perfect sandalwood steering wheel but I sold it a while back, sorry I should have kept it. I have seen you looking for one, I'll keep checking for you.

The pics reflect the quality work you do, with everything!

I didn't see the cable 'box' in the pics, you've covered any/all of the concerns right there...excellent design.
