Choosing right Compressor
Im looking to chose the best and afordable comp. for my setup. looked at Viair models 380-400-460 and also looked at zineth models but need more info than venders offer like amp draw for each. With out ordering too small a unit that pulls lots of curent and possably over work the unit, I could use some advice.
First of all 72steepside w-4 bags 8x 3/8 valves 5 gal air tank with auto pilot controlls. first of all how many time can I lower body all 4 and raise on one full tank with compressor unpluged? and fill time would be helpfull to know for each. I don,t want it for a lot of play time but on occation what can i expect with a 5 gal tank? thanks for any advice |

Im definitely not the one to ask on this sort of thing, but I do think that you are gonna want 2 compressors instead of one
I think I remember reading that 3 gallons per compressor was a good rule of thumb, so with a 5 gal tank you are pretty close to that 6 gal mark & with you wanting to play with the air ride, I would say 2 is a must On the other hand, have you though of a engine driven compressor ??? |

go with 2 comps, and 10 gallons. i would chose 480 for its 200psi ability or the 400 for 150. the 400's are super fast, so their duty cycle isnt really an issue.
and i dont think with a 5 gallon you can even come up and down twice. once for sure, but not twice. |

for what its worth i havea 380 and a 3 gal tank and i can go up and down at least twice and still have air left

My wifes car has a Viair 400 and a 5 gal tank. When she has it aired out and then goes to full lift the compressor kicks on. If she drops it immediately and lifts it again she can get it to just about ride height. When we set it up we were asked what we were going to do with it. We didn't build it to "play" with so it works exactly as it was planned. If you think you're going to want to clown around you may want to run two compressors or two small tanks with a compressor for each.

You should run an engine driven compressor, York 210. You can get them at the junk yard or a new one a kragen for cheap. They put out way more air than any Viair electric compressor and they are cheaper if you can build your own bracket.

I found some info on ar zenith and stats compaired to other model vair and found interesting numbers the thread has lots of antisapation but finally some info that is helpfull in choseing compressor here the link

Damn, I just spent at least 2 hours of my life reading that the AZ comps. are great, then they are junk, then they are great again. Oh well, I did learn a few things. Thanks ibad57!!

E D the way to go. Ford & chrysler had them and u can buy them cheap.and they make tons of air
I have them mounted with surpenteen belt system and they work great I think they are industructable I just checked the oil and put power to them bob |

Yeah a York compressor will give you tons of air or you could go with a sauden compressor.
The Yorks are famous for coming out of Volvos and the Saudens are well cheap Chrysler compressor. |

My .02 we stock and use alot of Viair 480 and 400 w/minimal problems. Both work nice the 400 for 150PSI and not much playing with is an awesome choice. Get 2 and even better, plus you have a backup should one fail.

Been using Viair for close to 10 years with no problems. Not one single failure. not one. ( of course now that I said that ) anyone that tells you don't worry about duty cycle is full of hot air. I ONLY use 100% duty cycle comps and while CFM is slightly lower if you play it will run, constantly. I do have some super old thompsons laying around that are still going but their minimal CFM keeps them from being a true contender. I also have one of the big chassis tech /aim ind compressors and believe it or not that thing is still pumping like a champ but it is an amp hog so I put it in my recovery truck to air up tires on my junkyard finds.
I will agree with all that the york is truely the way to go if you have room, engine power ( my 4 cyl mazda i had to rig a idle kicker upper to keep it from killing the motor while sitting), and fab skills to build the bracketry. They have great CFM and are easily found in salvage yards as mentioned before. I'm lucky enough that my 66 'conti has one stock and I will be putting one in my burb and hopefully my square dually if I can score another one cheap. Josh

For me the oasis pump and five gallon tank, plenty air on demand , but you need big power 60 amps on run AND THERE SPENDY,i have them on 3 trucks and i use the h-ll out of them 3 years no problem , az zenith i have had lots of problems and you have to send your pump in there box back to them for repair takes for ever booo that
