Dash Identification Help.

Ok, I have a dilemma, and thought I'd ask and see if someone out there has some insight. I picked up this 1965 and the PO replaced the cluster with a luan board (no joke) with miss-matched aftermarket gauges. In our restoration, we picked up a 65 cluster from a local vendor in texas, and it is way to small for the opening in the dash. Now I have compared the dash to pictures of the two different interior generations I'm aware of for this body style, the earlier years have a "hump" over the driver and passenger sides, and the later years have no humps, straight dash. This truck has a hump over the drivers side only....I'm at a loss. Pictures below, any help identifying what dash this is would be great, thanks,

Kyle

Re: Dash Identification Help.

Looks like you have a GMC cab, cause that is a GMC dash, the cluster is for a chevy.

Re: Dash Identification Help.

The VIN# on the cab matches the title which is chevy, so either the title is wrong, or they switched the dash. I am going tomorrow to get the vin#off the frame. The grill and hood are chevy, the tailgate was GMC, they did a redneck steel plate/smoothie job on it. I guess a lot can happen in 40+ years.

Did the chevy trucks in 65 have leaf spring rear ends? (this one does) I know in the 67-72's that was GMC specific.

Re: Dash Identification Help.

Yeah its a big mess at this point, I ran the title through a vin decoder online, not sure how accurate they are, came up a 61 chevy So far

Chevy Front clip
GMC Dash
GMC Frame
GMC Tailgate
Chevy Title, which decodes to an earlier year.

Oh boy, this is a fun one. thanks for your help.

The vin tag on the body has probably been changed.. doubt they switched the whole dash. Leafs were standard in GMCs I think, or at least very very common.

Re: Dash Identification Help.

Well my frame VIN is different than my cab VIN, truck is titled to cab VIN, so not sure its a big deal, but the weird thing is the Title says CHEV under make. So in summary,

Grill/Hood - Chevy
Title - GMC (registered @dmv as a chevy)
GMC frame perhaps (has leafs, haven't decoded vin# yet to see year etc)
GMC Cab

Definitely a mutt, but its nice to know what breed of mutt I got.

Thanks All.
