Need pics of rear bag mounting.

I have searched rear bag mounting pics and haven't found what I need. I need to cut down the long steel tube that I got from Suicide Doors. I have the upper and lower plates. I have RE 7's on my 72 GMC LWB that I am putting on a 71 Chevy frame. I also have the C notch installed and the 2" drop blocks. What do I need to do to mount the bags to the frame and trailing arm?

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

Thanks Prostreet- So I see that the cups go on top. I purchased my kit about 2 years ago, so I'm kinda lost. I called Suicide Doors after I received it and do remember them saying that I would have to cut the 6" dia. steel pipe that I got from them. But how do I know hwo tall that it needs to be for the upper cup. I guess I need to weld it to the plate then? I know that I need to keep enough space for the air fitting on top too, right? Can I run the air fitting an line thru the frame at the top of the bag? I recall seeing a thread on here a while ago with some good setup pics, but can't seem to find it now.

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

Just bolt the bag to the frame and trailing arm. No brackets required.
Drill a hole in the frame for the air line fitting to fit thru. You will need to drill 2 mounting holes in the frame also.
Use a 3/8"x4" bolt to mount the bag to the trailing arm.

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

Lolife- I guess you used a big flat washer to for the 3/8 bolt that goes up thru the trailing arm to the bag, correct? I'm runnin 1/2" line, so that's going to be a huge hole thru the frame for the line fitting. Damn, my frame and trailing arms just got powdercoated, so now I have to drill holes thru them? Oh well, I had to drill holes for my drop hitch to mount to the frame. Anyone got pics of the upper bag mounting look from inside the frame rail?

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

The hole isn't that bad. I did it on my truck, the hardest part is getting the air line pushed into the fitting.

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

Ajohn- funny, I just replied to yours and you just replied to mine. I Glocks rear disc conversion on my 72, and was using a disc/drum prop. valve with no problems. I now have the disc/disc valve, but I havent' noticed any difference. Sounds to me like pushrod length. I had to modify the rod in my 66 Chevelle too.

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

chevydog66,... yes, use a big washer. I use an extra thick one. I made a template of the upper bag holes and then transfered that to the frame. I also put a loop in the airline,... so I can connect the airline to the fitting and then mount the bag.
(This will help down the road,... if you ever have to remove the bag)

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

66 Prostreet- how did you attach the upper cup to the frame? Should I run a 90* line fitting then?

i used the ART rear coolride kit in the back. it uses the existing holes, with a 90* fitting. the threaded rod goes through the factory hole

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

kevncar- ya I seen that, but I'm not seeing what kind of fitting to use at the upper rear bag. It appears to me that there wont be much room for me to tighten up the 1/2" air line fitting into the bag, and tighten up the line once I get it onto the bag, due to the frame and upper shock crossmember.

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

I used the 90* swivel fitting. Its the one you push the tube into and it locks itself in. No tightening of compression nuts required. Its a real pain in the butt getting it in all the way.

Re: Need pics of rear bag mounting.

Yep, got em in, but I had to add a coupler to make it set up a little higher in the frame rail.
