Re: Hearse??? & Here Are Ambulance Brochures

Nice pics, thanks for posting them up. Ive never heard of the hearse option for burbs...Not to hurt anyones feelings, but to me a black burb or panel isnt really classy enough to be a hearse...in my opinion =)

I had never heard of a hearse burb & I figured this was the best place to ask, just something I've always been curious about! & yes really the classy ones were the ones with all the intricate woodwork on them Or The Gothic ones

they are all so rare and almost impossible to find... But There's nothing like a Black Caddy Hearse!...(Pre-64 that is!)well I guess I'm Just Looking 4 the 67-72 Ambulance..... or a regular burb of course!

Re: Hearse??? & Here Are Ambulance Brochures

I believe these pics were posted by a member in another thread. I think a funeral home in his hometown continues to use this panel. It probably was (or is) their "first call" vehicle.

Re: Hearse??? & Here Are Ambulance Brochures

I have seen quite a few suburban hearses. None in the 67-72 style but alot of them in the 88-98 style and one or two in the 99 and up style. A funeral home by my parents place always has a 88-98 style suburban hearse sitting out front. All four doors still have their glass but the back panes of glass in the body have been filled in on the ones I have seen. They usually have vinyl roofs on the back half of the truck, and they also have the big chrome bar for decoration where the rear windows should be. Of course here in TX we use trucks for everything so that may be why I have seen so many around here.

Re: Hearse??? & Here Are Ambulance Brochures

There was a member on here from Virginia beach,a few years back that had or had pictures of a 72 suburban that was used for picking up bodies. It had panels that went over the windows. It had the Landau bar on the panel. When not being used as a bodie hauler, the panels could be removed.

Re: Hearse??? & Here Are Ambulance Brochures

I agree,I think it would all depend on where you live. I could see Suburban hearses out here in Wy. I havent yet, but the other choice would be horse back which wouldnt suprise me either. considering the fact that "you must leave all hip irons with the bartender upon entering"

Re: Hearse??? & Here Are Ambulance Brochures

I think a sunshine yellow Suburban hearse with flower power stickers and happy faces would make me smile when I`m dead.

Being as this is my line of work I figured I'd chime in...the panels/subs are mostly used for first call vehicles (as stated above) and also flower cars during funeral services. Our first was a mid-70s Sub with a vinyl/landau conversion that we used for years...since we live in such rough country we often *have* to use one of our 4x4 subs on first calls...in inclement weather we've had to use one of our Subs in place of the hearse. Years and years ago my grandfather had a mid-50s panel that he used for both the funeral home and the county ambulance service [up until the mid-70s when the State took it over the local undertaker in most small towns also ran the ambulance service].

Special K, I think I've asked before, but does your silver book mention HD buckets?
