1975 gmc indy official truck?
Hi, I have a 1975 gmc that my great grandpa purchased at the race supposedly from one of the crew chiefs. it has a #27 on the mirror and factory bucket seats I dont know much about it it is all original and un touched so it is as it was in the race. its 2wd and has a 350 and auto. any info would be great I would like to know how many were in the race. I dont think they made replicas that year as there is almost no evidence of this truck existing.

Re: 1975 gmc indy official truck?
my understanding is that the vehicals that GM builds for expos like indy don't have vin numbers and have scrap titles(basicly a bill of sale)

Re: 1975 gmc indy official truck?
I will get pictures up as soon as I can get time. I hope to have them tomorrow night. The truck needs alot of work as it was left outside for about ten years or so sitting (not by me). Now it is safe inside and I really hope to restore it when i get some time. I dont think there were to many of these made does anyone have any ideas where I might be able to find out how many trucks like mine there were at the race?

Re: 1975 gmc indy official truck?
oh and about getting info from my family... my great grandfather purchased the truck at they indy 500 in 1975 supposedly from a crew chief or chief mechanic from one of the teams. (he worked in promotions and was promoting the race that year) he drove it home to Washington. he passed away in 1978 and the truck was willed to one of my uncles who sold it to a family friend. he drove it for years until the fuel pump went out causing it to be parked. I purchased it for 200 dollars and drove it home. my great grandfather knew alot about it but no one in the family seemed to care so no one knows anything more than he brought it home from the race

Re: 1975 gmc indy official truck?
I suggest you do as much research as possible. If your going to spend the money to restore it, documentation would be well worth the effort.

Re: 1975 gmc indy official truck?
Sounds like you not only have a nice truck in regards to the rarity of the truck, but also for it being your great grandfathers truck. That's pretty cool history in itself. I agree with Ken. Do a lot of research!! It will be well worth it. Also check out http://73-87.com Jeff, a member here, has a lot of good historical info on there.

indy500guy you just up the road from me I live in skagit valley.
I'd start looking around on the gm historical sites to get a number of how maney are made. if he drove it home from indy I would start looking at vin numbers
