Inside Hatchback hinges for Burbs?
I've been examining my upper hatch carefully over the last several days to try to figure a strategy for upgrading the hinge mountings in/on the hatch structure. The inner plate that the hinge bolts to appears to have broken away from inner structure. It is perhaps rusted/rotted as it seems like water would be impossible to keep out of this assembly.
The more I look at this thing, the more that I am convinced that the hatch should have utilized inside hinges with horizontal lift struts. Even hinges that are mostly inside (like the bottom ones would be an improvement! I'm wondering if anybody here knows if such items are available in the aftermarket or if somebody has done this successfully and kept patterns (?) I'm intrigued by the suggestion in another thread that fiberglass replicas of the hatch should be offered for no-rust purposes, but also to cut the weight that those hinges and sliders must support. |
