NEw Kansas city guy here.
Hello all!
Nice forum you got going here. Been looking everything over and having a real good time with all the information available. Just bought a beater of a 68 C-10 SB Step. Basic 350/350Auto. Its a mess, but will start tearing into the motor soon, just to check it out. The cab is totally rotten in all the usual places, needs cab mounts above the windshield etc.. I might consider a better cab if in budget, and local. Dont care if AC or not, just straight. Looking for a good windshield, but not in a hurry since other than doing burnout (hopefully soon), it wont be on the road until I get the metal work done and have fun with it working my b-hind off. A little about me. Im a 35 Y/o married guy. Work from home as an artist, Die designer (stamping parts). I build abstract sculpture and just been trying to learn to work on cars. I been mostly into VW's and Diesels, but started itching for a classic truck. I hate to say it but the 68 I just got was not my first choice, but just cant afford the ones I was looking at (Diamond T's, Hudsons, 40-41 fords, or a mini MACK, so none the less, this is what I am working with and hope to learn, have fun, and meet some interesting people along the way with the same passion for cars. If I do Finish it (are they ever). I will probably keep it and get another, or use it to finance yet another project, but the idea is to keep it, and have it as a shop truck, and park or sale the diesel, and get something a little more like these going. Have a great day, the misses is home so I got to go see how here day was. Bill Later. |

Re: NEw Kansas city guy here.
Well,
Just went and got a newish sort of rust free cab today. Its not cherry, but at least has metal to hold windshield back window and no rusty tank. I figured it saves me alot of trouble and was 200.00 so Im still under budget. Hope to blast it an d spray etch primer on it this weekend so I can see how much mud is in the floor. It had replacement rocker, and cab corners put in, but shiddy work, so will at least be better than what I had. I will need new parts still, but I think in uper cab alone it will save me 50+ hours and 300.00. Will see when she's bare and clean. My fire wall was toast too, so hence the newer one. Id like to see her on the road in less than 16 months. Will see. Bill |

Re: NEw Kansas city guy here.
Thanks,
Whats it called? Currently working on figuring out the carb, and its linkage. Not a wrench so takes 20X's longer than most. Started top remove the seat and get the tank out since I got a NOS with no rust, so I feal I am doing it al the best I can. I hate hacks..... That and working on the distributor. Cant get it to fire. The guy I bought the cab from stated he's pretty handy on these small blocks, and might swing out next week. Im going to go take pics of the truck to post so you guys know what Im working with here. It looks like it is ex military buy the drab green under all the other primer and paint. Bill |

Re: NEw Kansas city guy here.
sorry gang, but the place east of Lawrence (A.Z. Smith Motors) is going out of business and they no longer have any trucks left. Called them a few weeks back they are clearing it out. bummer. more trucks heading to the big crusher in the sky.....
hey Bill, had you listed a wtb post on Craigslist? saw someone needing a cab on there last week.

Re: NEw Kansas city guy here.
Well,
Guess I better show pictures of my beater. its a 68 c10 step swb. , w/sb 350 350auto. Pretty basic ex military truck gone bad. I bought it to fix into a nice driver, maybe more? Never know. Here she is. Hope I can make her look good. Here you go.... Ya think the cab had a case of cancer? This tag, along with the drab green under the primer makes me think it is ex military. Not so original impala tilt steering. Just got this (little bit better) cab yesterday. After I get this 350 running again. (oh, I wish I where a good wrench) Going to start with the cab, get it fixed up, nice and new feeling. Then start with the bed. Finally then I will work on the front clip. While I have the cab off I will work on the chassis, buy installing new hardware and a better stance for the attitude I think she needs. I'm sure some of it will be a pain, some a joy, but hope mostly to have fun, meet some new people, but most of all have a nice custom classic truck to enjoy, and have fun with.
